La Palabra Del Dia: "materia"
materia ( mah-teh'-ryah )
noun ( subject; matter )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
Guidelines:
Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Professor: Matter is neither created nor destroyed, only transformed.
Student: But where did matter come from?

Algunas personas simplemente no entienden la diferencia entre "materia" y "material", incluso después de mirar a través de muestras. Yo no estoy señalando el dedo, pero este tipo es un habitual en SpanishDict, y participa en la palabra del día mucho. ¡Ayuadame!
Some people just do not understand the difference between 'materia' and 'material' even after looking through samples. I am not pointing my finger, but this guy is a regular on SpanishDict, and he participates in word of the day a lot. Help!

La materia de que quiero decirte es muy seria. He oido que has equivocadote con el subjuntivo, no una vez sino muchas veces. ¿Puede ser verdad? ¡ Estoy escandalizado!
The matter about which I want to speak to you is very serious. I have heard that made a mistake with the subjunctive, not once but many times. Can this be true? I am shocked!

Todos estamos formados por las mismas materias, el agua y el carbono, el oxígeno, por ejamplo, pero lo interesante es, que con la evolución algunos de nosostos se han hecho ranas, otros víboras, elefantes o lombrices.. Y todos estamos relacionados el uno con el otro, el hombre comparte 99% de su ADN con el ráton, creo.
We are all formed out of the same matter, water and carbon, for example, but the interesting thing is that with evolution, some of us have developed into frogs, others into snakes, elephants or worms. Yet we're all related to each other, man for example shares 99% of his DNA with the mouse, I think . .

¿Son los fotones un tipo de materia o no? Son partículas que no tienen masa, y por eso es polémico. Es interesante que según la versión de Wikipedia en inglés no lo son, pero según la versión en español se clasifican como materia no-másica.
Are photons a type of matter or not? They are particles that don't have mass, and because of this it is controversial. It is interesting that according to the English version of Wikipedia they are not, but according to the version in Spanish they are classified as matter without mass.
