Mi amiga ha muerto esta semana del cáncer de los pulmones. Es una tragedía. Ella fumaba cigarellos todos los días por muchas años. El tabaco provoca un millón de muertes al año. ¡No fumes!

My friend died this week of lung cancer. It is a tragedy. She smoked cigarettes for many years. Tobacco causes a million deaths a year. Don't smoke!

I don't want to judge my friend too harshly. Nicotine is very addictive and she tried so many times to quit smoking. I just felt I needed to highlight the dangers of smoking. It is best not to start. - languagenut, Oct 30, 2015

I'm very sorry for your loss, Languagenut. If I may ask, how old was your friend? I do understand how addictive it is, and I can understand older people who were not aware of the dangers. I don't understand, though, how people today can start smoking knowing the dangers up front. I'm not talking down to it, I just don't understand it.

I'm sorry for your loss. Please know that your friend lived the best life she could. Smoking is addictive especially when one starts young. Sometimes addicts can overcome their addictions sometime they can't. I hope you will find some peace in your life after this loss and that whatever comfort your friendship brought when she was with you will live on in your memories.
