Hi. I'm reading an article in English about the addicting effect that has tanning. I need help understanding some parts.

But what's fallen out of high fashion has hardly fallen out of favor

When I put it in the translator this came up:

Pero lo que ha salido de la alta moda apenas ha caído en desuso

What I understand from this, is that something that became a trend because of fashion, it's still a trend. But that doesn't make sense in context because the article is saying that even though actresses being pale is something trendy, people still like tanning.

Then this other part:

It built upon earlier research by scientists at Wake Forest University, who administered naltrexone -which blocks drug-induced euphoria- to subjects before tanning; half of the frequent tanners experienced nausea in keeping with withdrawal symptoms.

The last part is what I don't understand. "half of the frequent tanners experienced nausea in keeping with withdrawal symptoms." Does that mean that they stopped tanning which produced them nausea?

Thanks!

The first part- high fashion would refer to what is in favor in the world of high fashion- among the supermodels and the cutting edge of the fashion industry.

So it is saying that even though it is no longer in fashion in the leading edge of the fashion industry (the people who set the fashion, the supermodels, etc.), it is still a trend among the masses, the populace in general. At least as I read it.

Los líderes de la industria de la moda, como las supermodelos, ya no broncean, pero esto no ha causado que la mayoría de las personas comunes hayan dejado de esto.

Naltrexone blocks endorphin/narcotic receptors in the body. So half of people who tan regularly went into withdrawal when their narcotic receptors were blocked- indicating that they had developed tolerance due to high natural levels of natural ”narcotics”. In other words it is indicating that regular tanning releases natural endorphins that stimulate narcotic receptors and in essence addicts them to tanning. They used naltrexone to block the effects of the natural narcotic like substances released in response to tanning- so that although they were still released, they did no good, the receptors were blocked by the med so the people did not get the effect.

I think the same can happen with running and some other forms of exercise.

Naltrexona bloquea los efectos de las endorfinas naturales, y por eso los que broncean entran al síndrome de abstinencia como si fueran adictos a las drogas cuando reciben naltrexona.

Hopefully I am being clear enough? Si fuera necesario podría explicarlo más en espanol, pero tu inglés me parece ser muy bueno.
