There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1: Los bailarines anduvieron por la calle, listos para el festejo.

The dancers walked through the street, ready for the celebration.

2: No anda la impresora; hay que llamar al técnico.

The printer doesn't work; we need to call the technician.

Esto ya es la universidad, no me puedo andar con tonterías aquí.

This is college now; I can't get involved in silly stuff here.

A more natural translation would probably be "This is college; I can't afford to mess around here", but I wanted the English sentence to mirror the Spanish one.

Ayer mi amiga colombiana y yo andábamos por la galería del arte mirando los cuadros y a veces nos paramos delante de uno para describirlo en español e inglés.

Yesterday my Colombian friend and I walked around the art gallery looking at paintings and sometimes we stopped in front of one to describe it in Spanish and English.

Does anyone outside the US know the comic Mark Trail which this cartoon refers to? - mstivers, Oct 25, 2015
He's a grown-up Boy Scout that solves crimes that have to do with the outdoors. - mstivers, Oct 25, 2015
I didn't, but it looks interesting and funny. :) - rac1, Oct 25, 2015

A mi esposa y yo a veces nos gusta andar por algunas de las calles populares en nuestra ciudad, pero estacionar el coche ha llegado a ser tan difícil en algunas partes que hoy en día es algo que rara vez hacemos.

Sometimes my wife and I like to walk around some of the trendy streets of our city, but parking the car has become so difficult in some areas that nowadays it is something we rarely do.

Un día espero que ser un peregrino andando en por el camino de Santiago.

One day I hope to be a pilgrim walking the Way of St. James.

enter image description here

Dígame alguien de España, hay una palabra "romero" ¿se usa para el sentido de peregrino religioso hoy?

Romerías are not really pilgrimages , although Saints are carried on the streets. The pilgrimages, such as to Santiago de Compostela are more of a private affair, you can start whenever you like. - annierats, Oct 25, 2015
I hope to walk at least part of it someday. - mstivers, Oct 25, 2015

En el sitio donde vivo hay una velada cada agosto en la que la Virgen de la Oliva ( Nuestra Señora de la Oliva Coronada) la patrona de Vejer de la Frontera está llevada en procesión de hombros a la iglesia de Vejer, un caminata de unas dos horas andando a pie. Este año caminé con la procesión, y creo que estabamos más que 1000 personas caminado con la Virgen.

In the place where I live there is an evening every August when the Patron Saint of Vejer, the Virgin of La Oliva ( Our Crowned Lady of the Olives?) is carried on the shoulders of some men to the church in Vejer de la Frontera, a walk of some two hours. This year I walked with the procession and I think that there were more than a thousand persons walking along with the Virgin.

A veces mi teléfono no anda y he encontrado que la mejor cosa hacer es sacar la batería y entonces reemplazarla. Hasta ahora esto ha funcionada bien.

Sometimes my telephone doesn't work and I have found that the best thing to do is to take out the battery and then replace it. So far this has worked well.
