There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Manny Pacquiao (derecha) fue más que un digno oponente de Floyd Mayweather Jr. en la pelea por el título welter.

Manny Pacquiao, right, was more than a worthy opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr in the fight for the welterweight title.

Querría Quería escribir alguna frase digna de la palabra “digno”, pero en este momento, todo en lo que puedo pensar trata con algún tema polémico u otro, y la verdad es que ha he intentado evitar tales temas, aunque a veces fallo en eso.

I wanted to write some phrase worthy of the word “worthy”, but at this time, everything that I can think of deals with some controversial theme or another, and the truth is that I have tried to avoid such themes, even though at times I fail at that.

A los pobres no niempre les gusta ser descritos como 'dignos'. Nunca se oye que una mujer es rica pero digna, hay que ser pobre para ser digna, no es justo.

Poor people don't like always being described as ' worthy'. One never hears it said that a rich woman is ' worthy' one has to be poor to be honourable, it's most unfair.

A cat will decide if you are worthy of its affection, and then he will be your friend but never your slave.

Estoy segura de que los científicos que ganan el Premio Nobel son dignos de eso, también los escritores. Los otros Premios Nobel , para la Economía y La Paz a veces son más controvertidos.

I am sure that the scientists who win the Nobel Prize are worthy of it, also the writers. The other Nobel Prizes, for Economics and Peace are sometimes more controversial.

I think the fellow in the picture is Henry Kissinger. Sometimes prizes dignify neither the recipient nor the prize. I'm an Obama fan, but he is not a man of peace either. - Jubilado, Oct 14, 2015
Yes Jubi it is. I think this is history now, I didn't have any more recent examples for fear of being 'political'! There have been many worthy recipients: the Dalai Lama for example. - jennysk, Oct 14, 2015
I pray and try to get as much info. as I can about them. :) - rac1, Oct 14, 2015

I learned the word 'digno' in church in Santiago when they sang the song, "Holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, Worthy is the Lamb, You are holy".

Aprendí la palabra 'digno' en la iglesia en Santiago cuando cantaron la canción, "Santo, santo, Él Señor Dios poderoso, Digno eres Tú, Tú eres santo".

Santo y Poderoso
