I have been making lists of AR, ER and IR verbs in the present, preterite, imperfect, conditional and future, does anyone have suggestions of irregular verbs I should include? (I'm trying to improve my Spanish grammar as it isn't very good) Thanks smile

Welcome to the forum.

Can you add your level of English and Spanish to your profile as it is helpful.

Are you teaching yourself or do you have a teacher?

Some Spanish verbs are very irregular but most follow a pattern or are only irregular in small parts eg the past participle of abrir [to open] is abierto

and of romper [to break ] is roto.

The obvious ones to learn are: ser and estar [to be] tener [to have] and you will be able to apply what you learn to similar verbs like mantener hacer [to do] ir [to go] salir [to go out] ver [to see] dar [to give] decir [to say] and I always confuse poder/poner/ perder and pedir.

I remember learning the acronym D I S H E S for the irregular subjunctive verbs.

Of course when you start you need to learn verbs but you will learn a lot from reading listening and talking and get the feel for verbs. Many irregularities follow a pattern so you will get the feel for what works.

On this forum katy dew and crucesignatus have games to help you learn verbs.

Think of things you want to say then look up the verb. There are many sites with conjugators and quizzes if that works for you.

Buena suerte

Having answered your question I have now searched the site and found an answer by Lazarus (a Spanish native, fluent in English with a brilliant knowledge of language) He prepared a list of irregular verbs noting where they are irregular - I am going to use it for reference, though if I were learning I would only try and add a few at a time to my memory bank including learning a phrase or sentence - long lists don't help. For example the phrase:

Si yo fuera rico - if I were a rich man gives you the yo part of the present subjunctive of ser and better still you can remember it as part of a song:

The song link isn't working at the moment here is a link to the lesson with video

Lesson + video

Song si yo fuera rico

Here is the link including list:

You can click the Gramática link on the menu bar of this website and find many good lessons and links to irregular verbs

Here is at least one link to an irregular verb:

Irregular ir

Here is another:

Irregular verbs paper

Also type in "irregular verbs" in the Q & A searchbox and you will find many discussions on this that may be helpful, like this thread: Thread about irregular verbs.
