Peludo y Pelado

Here in Mexico (Baja) one means naked or bald and the other hairy.

Peludo means hairy. I guess it is derived from pelo.

Pelado means naked or bald. I guess it is derived from the verb pelar = to peel or shave.

I just like the contrast of two very similar words for opposite things.

Hola, Gringo:

Pelado also means:

  1. Someone poor or without money:

Estoy pelado y no tengo dinero para pagar la renta.

I am broke, and I have no money to pay the rent.

  1. In Mexico, someone from the lower social clases and low culture:

No seas pelado y no digas palabrotas que no estás en la pulquería.

Do not be rude and do not say bad words, because you're not in the bar.
