There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: La gente en el cine se la estaba pasando bien.

The people at the movies were having a good time.

2: ¿Por qué hay tanta gente formada afuera del supermercado?

Why are there so many people lined up outside the supermarket?

Aunque la palabra gente siempre significa un grupo de más de una persona se usa en español como nombre singular, pero la misma palabra en inglés, "people", siempre se usa como plural.

Even though the word "gente" always means a group of more than one person it is used in Spanish as a singular noun, but the same word in English, people, is always used as plural.

La gente le solía preguntar a mi padre, con respecto a sus viajes, ¿Cómo es la gente parece ser, de allí? Con un gran conocimiento de la gente, mi padre respondería respondía, Estoy seguro de que se verá en ellos al igual que se mira lo mismo que ves en a la gente de aquí.

People used to ask my father, regarding his travels, "What are the people like there?" With a great knowledge of people, my father would respond, "I am sure you will look upon them much like you look upon the people here."

He descubierto una vez más que la naturaleza básica de la gente es muy similar dondequiera que vaya. Viajo sin temor.

I have discovered once again that the basic nature of people is very similar wherever I go. I travel fearlessly.

The three little pigs went into the bar and the oldest ordered two beers and a coke. A waiter brought them the drinks and the elder piglet asked him :'' What do people around here do? What sort of work is there? '' The waiter, a German Shepherd dog, smiled sadly and answered that there wasn't a lot of work in this country. He asked the piglets: '' In what field do you work?'' The oldest pig said: '' We used to work in recycling but we had to leave our country due to the floods and now we're looking for work. We are willing to to whatever typo of work there might be. '' The waiter said: '' We might be able to find something for the little chap, around here there are tourists looking for white slaves''. The youngest piglet didn't understand a word of this conversation but said quietly: '' I don't like this type of gentleman.''

Una de las cosas que me encanta acerca de este sitio es que puedo interrelacionarme con gente de muchos países de todos los continentes del mundo, bueno quizás excepto la Antártida, y aprender de y con ellos.

One of the things that I love about this site is that I can interact with people from many countries from all the continents of the world, okay perhaps except Antarctica, and learn from and with them.

Gobierno para la gente por la gente parece una buena idea, pero desafortunamente este necesita que toda la gente esté bien informada y sea racional .

Government for the people by the people seems a good idea, but unfortunately this requires that all the people are well-informed and rational.

Ya no me gusta ir al centro porque hay muchísima gente, y por supuesto, también hay muchos carteristas.

I don't like to go to downtown anymore because there are crowds of people, and of course there are many pickpockets too.
