Hola
How do you add an accent mark or an ñ to the subject line of a message?

Another way is to use the "alt" codes. I have memorized them and can type them in fairly fast. The ones in the center column are the most important. Most people don't accent capital letters these days, although in a college class you might be required to do so. The "other symbols" the inverted question mark and exclamation point are about all you need, unless you just HAVE to use the others which in my case is not at all.
I have no idea how this done on a Mac. I have an ordinary Dell PC laptop with a numerical key pad. To do an "alt" code you press on the alt button, key in the numbers on the keypad, lift off the "alt" button and the last number simultaneously and "voilà" (French alt 0224)
Buena suerte.
As your proficiency improves, you will probably find that these "ways to cheat" will slow the process of your typing. Why not just set your computer for more than just English and have done with it? Control panel ... languages and regions .... pic a language. After you set up, an icon will appear close to the clock on the task bar and you will be able to switch between languages easily. Some of the keys are different but this can be easily memorized, although I admit that I sometimes make mistakes by being more accostumed to having the language set to Spanish than English.
You can type your subject in the question box which has the needed marks then cut and paste it into the subject line. Or if you would like to use them on your lap top download the program Vikingo posted on this question: "Typing Accents - Ways to Cheat" third answer down.
