Preterite and Imperfect - Use
Hi I've translated a paragraph, which is primarily about the use of the preterite and imperfect past tense. It would help if someone could look it through - thanks! 
Pepa tells: On the 25th of May I visited my daughter, Ana. It was a beautiful day. The sun shined and the birds chirped. Ana and I stood and washed the plates in the kitchen. Suddenly Pedro arrived, my grandchild. He opened the fridge and took out a sandwich. ”How are you?” Pedro asked. ”I'm good” I answered. Pedro was tired and did not want to talk. He ate his sandwich and went to his room. The room was very messy. The bed was not made and there was garbage everywhere. That is why Pedro cleaned his room. He made the bed and threw out the garbage. After that he went to bed.
Pepa dice: El 25 de mayo visité a mi hija, Ana. Era un día bonito. Hacía sol y las pájaros gorjeaban. Ana y yo estábamos fregando los platos en la cocina. De sopetón llegó Pedro, mi nieto. Abrió la nevera y sacó un bocadillo. “Cómo estás?” preguntó Pedro. “Estoy bien,” respondí. Pedro estaba cansado, y no tenía ganas de hablar. Comió su bocadillo y fue a su habitación. El habitación estaba muy desordenado. La cama no estaba hecho y había basura por todas partes. Por esto Pedro puso en orden su habitación. Hizo la cama y tiró la basura. Luego fue a la cama.

Excelente traducción. Solo algunos errores de concordancia: "los pájaros", etc.

La habitación estaba muy desordenada. La cama no estaba hecha y había basura por todas partes. Por esto Pedro puso en orden su habitación. Hizo la cama y tiró la basura. Luego fue a la cama.
Cambié “De sopetón” por “De pronto”, porque, aunque es correcto, me parece inapropiado en este contexto. En la frase “¿Cómo estás?”, preguntó Pedro. Puedes omitir “Pedro”.
