There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

My son always sucks his thumb when we take a walk.

2: Una vaca me chupó la mano cuando estuve en la granja.

A cow licked my hand when I was at the farm.

Trato de chupar todo el conocimiento que pueda de mis amigos en SpanishDict; no pasa un día que no aprendo algo de alguien aquí.

I try to suck up all the knowledge I can from my friends at SpanishDict; not a day goes by that I don't learn something from somebody here.

Cuando éramos adolescentes teníamos un amigo llamado "Popochas" que era bien chupón porque siempre nos pedía dinero prestado pero nunca nos reemplazaba nada.

When we were teenagers we had a friend called "Rotten Bananas" who was a real sponger because he always borrowed money from us but never paid back anything.

Si un bebé se chupa el dedo es aceptable , pero a partir de los cuatros a?os , tiempo antes del cual se produce la salida de los dientes permanentes que se realiza a los 6 o 7 a?os, tienes que ayudarlo a que deje por completo este hábito para que no se convierta en un mal.

If a baby sucks his thumb it is acceptable, but at four years, long before the growth of permanent teeth occurs, that takes place at 6 or 7 years, you have to help him stop this habit altogether so it doesn't become a problem.

Las garrapatas son insectos horribles, no solo chupan sangre, sino que transmiten enfermedades muy graves, como el piroplasmosis de caballos,la babesiosis y la enfermedad de lyme de animales y en seres humanos también , y no hablamos de la parálisis por picadura en perros . De verdad son bichos odiosos.

Ticks are horrible insects, not only do they suck blood, but they also carry very serious diseases, such as Piroplasmosis in horses , and Redwater Disease and Lyme's disease in both animals and people, not to mention Tick Paralysis in dogs. They really are hateful insects.

Chupar es un instinto con que nacen los bebés. Sin este, no sobreviviría nadie. Al primer día el bebé puede chupar el pecho de la mamá, y más tarde a veces un chupete o el pulgar.

To suck is an instinct with which babies are born. Without this, no-one would survive. From the first day the baby can suck on the mother's breast, and later sometimes a dummy or the thumb.

Para aliviar el dolor de garganta, chúpate una pastilla para la garganta, un caramelo o una paleta. También puedes chupar un limón con miel.

To relieve sore throat, suck on cough drops, hard candy or a popsicle. You can also suck a lemon with honey.

Hay un número de enfermedades que se transmiten mediante insectos que chupan sangre, y si alguien descubriera una manera segura de eliminar esos insectos, me pregunto cuántos de los ecologistas intentaran impedirlo, y cuántos no.

There are a number of illnesses that are transmitted by insects that suck blood, and if someone were to discover a safe way of eliminating those insects, I wonder how many of the environmentalists would try to impede it, and how many wouldn't.

Yes, I can't see what good ticks and mosquitos do.. I mean birds eat mosquitos, but there seems to be a surplus left over.. - annierats, Sep 21, 2015
I'll save most any creature, but ticks and mosquitoes I destroy. Ticks I destroy gleefully. - roveg, Sep 21, 2015
Love this conversation on nature. lol - rac1, Sep 21, 2015
Of course, for scientific accuracy, I have to admit that although I mentally included ticks, I mistakenly said insects, and ticks are not insects, rather arachnids. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 21, 2015
Of course we don't like creatures which bite, but it is also true that it is impossible to predict the effect of removing or reducing a species. The interactions are complex and it might end up with results we like even less. - jennysk, Sep 22, 2015

Yesterday they were drinking liquor all night in the street, bandsize> included, I guess that it might have been for the anniversary of the district.

Ayer estuvieron chupando toda la noche en la calle con orquestasize> y todo, supongo que habrá sido por el aniversario del distrito.
