Please help me translate "le hallé aplicación práctica"

I'm having trouble translating this sentence:

"Todo lo visto en la facultad sobre el tema comunicaciones se transformo? en algo sumamente interesante recie?n cuando le halle? aplicacio?n pra?ctica, si bien siempre me gustaron."

I think it means:

"Everything in the faculty on the topic of communications became very interesting recently when I discovered practical applications, although I always liked them."

Is this right?

In the part "le hallé aplicacio?n práctica", what does the "le" refer to?

Here's my "take"

Everything seen in the department regarding the communications theme was transformed into something interesting when I recently found a practical application for it (le) since I always liked it/them.

(The subject of "gustar" here is really "el tema" but it looks like the writer was referring to communications--I think that's why "gustaron" is in the plural. I would have used the singular, "gustaba" I use the imperfect because of the adverb "siempre" which suggests continuous action in the past.)

BTW, "la facultad" when speaking of university life means. "Department" as in the "Foreign language department."

A mi parecer tu traducción está bien, y la verdad no sé si "le" sea "to", solo sé que no es propio de una persona en especifico (osea que puedes decir, le hallé, le hallaste, le hallamos etc.) hace mucho leí sobre eso pero ahora no lo recuerdo :/

Pero no te preocupes aquí hay gente que sabe más que yo, solo hay que ser paciente.
