A wonderful Man and Moderator and His Work on SD.
![]()
Hola, miembros de la comunidad.
I wish to strongly commend one of our moderators. Ray 76. He not only does an incredible Job of moderating our questions and answers, but also has the thankless job of getting all the fools and others whose only desire is to harass the members of this site, and cause problems, off the site. . We dont always see the results of this because most of their posts never see the light of day.
Ray also posts wonderful threadsusually philosophical in nature, sometimes they challenge us to provide a translation. Every time he posts one of these wonderful threads I jump right on it because it will give me something to think about and many times challenge me to think profoundly on the issue.
His latest thread had to do with a translation of an article which was an announcement telling of a celebration of Mexican Independence day and the Treaty of Iguala.
I was the only one who posted a translation. No one else even tried. The votes were miserably low. At the time of the writing of this post, there have been 274 views. Ray and I have each received 5 votes, probably from close friends. Ray got one of his votes from me and vice versa.
On the philosophical posts, and there have been many, I usually respond along with around three or four others, and get just a few votes which really shows a lack of interest and/or ability. I refuse to believe lack of ability. The intelligence level of members here is extremely high.
Ray works very hard on these threads, searching endlessly to find just the right picture to illustrate his thoughts. Many times he will find a beautiful photo and a quote from Rumi, a great (Buddhist, I think) philosopher, among others which add great flavor to the post.
I would like to appeal to the community to not just glance at these posts but instead to slow down and put your brain in gear and just see if you can make a contribution. If we do this it just might influence our thinking more to the effect that we will be more activated by our spiritual side, become a little bit nicer and kinder, and bring more peace and joy into this site and by extension to our world.
What do you think?
Vuestra amiga,
Daniela

Estoy avergonzado, pero orgullosos det rabajar con esos maravillosos miembros.
No merezco este tipo de reconocimientos.
I am embarrassed , but proud to work with such wonderful members.
I do not deserve such accolades .

Ray is an excellent person in SD, his threads are without a doubt the most sucessful of all.
It is very useful exchange words in "Drop one, take one / Toma una, deja una" and his philosophical threads are very welcome.
I think that all persons in SD have a different time and personality, for example I wait for game threads although in ocassions I answer to philosophical, more theological, threads.
Particularly I regret not having sufficient time for practice my English in all threads because I know that I lose many good things in SD, therefore, I shall confine myself to speak in monosyllables or games of one or two words.
I miss my free time in previous months, because I lose so much that I could learning with my friends.
I hope that at least on Tuesdays I can be connected at least a little bit of time, if things do not become worse, or at least at extraordinary times like today that has started the championship in school.
I think that we should all respect each other, be in solidarity with each other and sometimes even carry one another's burdens to form a good learning community.

And I think that soon we will be able to celebrate a great event whit the 300 K of reputation of our great Moderator and Friend: Ray, and we have to prepare well for this festival of learning.

Thank you so much Ray76.
I also appreciate very much the work and the thinking of Ray and generally I am jumping first on his posts and I like them very much, but this time I couldn't see the sense to translating from a poorly known language to another similarly poorly known one.
When he is giving an interesting theme I always gladly work up my ideas or the ideas of some interesting scholar, philosopher or writer. I hope Ray is not offended and he will continue his beneficent work for the pleasure of all of us. Thanks Dani for your kind and true words.

Heck, yeah!

Yes, it's true. Ray's philosophical posts really make me think. I really do appreciate them and all the work that Ray and all the other moderators do here on SD. Ray covers the "night shift" here. I have been working with Ray since 2010 which is when I think we both got our first computers. We've come a long way. baby, in that respect. Don't you think so?
Thanks again to the Mod squad: Ian, Amber and Ray.
Also T h a n k s ... to the select members who so often are seen on the threads such as Porcupine, and to those who create tributes . . .
and thanks to Sandy, Katydew, Crucesignatus and others who do or have run popular daily threads. Special thanks to Dani, and other native Spanish speakers, who lend their time and expertise to help and greatly enhance the learning for the rest of us on SD. Thanks too
to the many unsung members who have created flashcard sets...

Daniela, Ray, it's not that I don't appreciate all that you and others do for the SpanishDict community, I do. I generally do not respond to the more time-consuming posts only for this reason: I have very limited time, and it takes me forever to translate anything.
Many days, I do not have time to post or comment, but I almost always read and vote... whether or not I comment.
Most days I vote for so many posts that SD quits giving me points for voting (not that I care one lick about the points, it just illustrates that I am spreading the love as best I can).
I think of the votes I give as little thank-yous to others for effort, participation, respecting the rules, helping me, etc.
Whenever I post a question, I put a lot of effort into making it as clear and concise as possible... my questions are often viewed by hundreds, but with comparatively little response, so I share your frustration.
I will try to do better.
Gotta go! (slang: I have to leave)

- Such a friendly presence on this site and the reason many keep posting. Your humor and acceptance of amigos and amigas however you find them is a great talent. Well done.

And, Ray, you are a real gentleman. It shows in every post you make here on Spanishdict, in every PM you send, in every mod action you take. We are lucky to know you. We all benefit from your knowledge and your willingness to spend untold hours working to keep Spanishdict as classy as you are.

Hi, Daniela, Ray, I haven't seen the post until now. Being a Mexican, I would have liked to try to translate the letter into English, though you know it is much harder to translate a text from your native language to another language than vice versa. You need to be fully bilingual to do that, and that only show us Daniela's command of both languages.
I have just read the translation from Daniela, and I have nothing else to say than it is just excellent! Congratulations! I couldn´t have done it better no matter how hard I would have tried.
Congratulations to both of you, I always read your post with joy and always learn something from you.
By the way, it is so true: the Independence of Mexico was signed on the 27th of September of 1821, after eleven years of war.
It is a long story to explain why this date is almost unknown by most mexicans.
¡Muchos saludos para Daniela y Ray!
Sugar Ray knows we appreciate him.I used to answer his posts regularly . I hope we all learn from this .
