Is this a good way to express it in Spanish?
I know the verb acercar means to bring something / someone closer to something / someone else. So in a friendship can one say this?
Espero que nos acerquemos más.
Meaning: I wish we could be closer (in feeling not in physical proximity).
Native speakers your help will be appreciated. (Hispanohablantes su [vuestra] ayuda será bien recibida.)

It's more than ok, but I think "Espero que seamos más cercanos" is by far the best way. Because when you say "que seamos más cercanos" you are talking explicitly about the person's (soul, mind, feelings, whatever metaphysic word you want to use) by using the word "ser".
Que se conozcan mejor, que hagan actividades juntos, que se lleven mejor.

Sí se usa en sentido figurado con ese significado. Saludos, Jubilado. ![]()
