aburrir ( ah-boo-rreer' )

verb ( to bore )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1: ¡Cómo me aburren estas juntas interminables!

How these never-ending meetings bore me!

2: Correr la misma ruta todos los días aburrió al corredor.

Running the same route every day bored the runner.

Solía jugar al béisbol cuando era joven, y es nuestro "pasatiempo nacional"... pero hoy en día me aburre.

I used to play baseball when I was a kid, and it's our "national pastime"... but these days it bores me.

Estar Siendo viejo con muchos cuentos este ocurre muchas veces muchas historias esto pasa mucho: "Ojalá que no te aburra yo esté aburriéndote pero en tal caso es de ser asíeres quien te aburres el que se aburre. ¿Yo? Soy yo estoy contento."

Being old with many stories this happens a lot: "I hope I'm not boring you but if so it's you who are getting bored. Me? I'm happy."

Se aburre Morris? No siempre, pero hoy ni siquiera una ratón gordo podría motivarle a él.

Is Morris bored? Not always, but today not even a fat mouse could motivate him.

A veces me aburro en la oficina porque me gustaría ver el mundo y no puedo verlo desde mi escritorio.

Sometimes I get bored in the office because I would like to see the world, and I can't see it from my desk.

Como no quería abandonarme al tedio me he comprado un caballo. Desafortunadamente no sabía que hay muchas reglas para tener un caballo en casa y he pasado los últimos días en las oficinas de la policía, de OCA y del ayuntamiento, intentando arreglarlo todo . A menos no me aburro en casa.

As I didn't want to get bored I have bought myself a horse. Unfortunately I didn't know that there are many rules in order to keep a horse at your own place and I've spent the last few days in the police office, in the Animal Welfare( ? ) office and in the town hall trying to sort it all out. At least I'm not sitting at home, bored.

Me aburro de la vida y siento fuera del sitio acá y por eso quiero ir a alguna otra planeta de qualquier otro sistema solar.

I am borred of my life and feel out of the place here and thus I pine for going to some other planet in any other solar system ..

I just don't like it here,,

Es que no me gusta estar acá...

Ya he hecho una nave espacial con ayuda de mi amiga Dani y su burro .. pero la sola razón que me para de marchar es el español .. todo el trabajo duro que ya he puesto en aprender lo va a ir a la basura...

I have already made a spaceship with the help of Dani and her donkey but the only reason that stops me from leaving is Spanish .. all the hard work I have put in to learn it up is going to go down the drain ..

Cuando las parejas llevan algún tiempo viviendo juntas, a menudo su vida se vuelve un poco rutinaria y entonces es probable que comiencen a aburrirse con su compañero.

When couples have been living together for a while, often their life becomes a routine, and it is likely then that they would begin to get bored with their own partner.

Los sudokus de los lunes y de los martes me aburren por ser tan fáciles, y no estoy seguro de cuándo los de los miércoles dejarán de interesarme, pero todavía disfruto haciéndolos haciendo los del resto de la semana.

The Monday and Tuesday Sudoku's bore me, for being so easy, and I am not sure when those from Wednesdays will stop interesting me, but I still enjoy doing the ones from the rest of the week.

enter image description here

I have edited to add that Sudoku has nothing to do with math- although it would drive me crazy to try to do it this way, you can put whatever 9 things you want in it, myself, I will stick with Arabic numerals:

I'm bad at math. Thank God for calculators. - Daniela2041, Sep 11, 2015
There is no math- you don't even add things together. You could substitute 9 different shapes, or fruits,or whatever and it would be the same. The numbers only help because they have an order so you don't loose track of your patterns. :) - bosquederoble, Sep 11, 2015

If you don't mind, I'd like to correct a common mistake. Due to their similarity, people tend to think "sujeto" and "subject" have the same meaning but "subject" translates to "asunto, tema" (topic) and "sujeto" to "person, guy". - Roulette36, Sep 11, 2015
