La Palabra Del Dia: "pena"
pena ( peh'-nah )
noun ( trouble; pity, shame; sentence )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
Guidelines:
Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:
1: Valió la pena la caminata. ¡Qué vista!
The hike was worth the trouble. What a view!
2: La pena para el robo hormiga es dos meses de servicio comunitario.
The sentence for shoplifting is two weeks of community service.
Notes:
If you're ever in Mexico, you may hear someone use the idiom "pena ajena," which literally means "someone else's shame." Often called "vergüenza ajena" in other Spanish-speaking countries, this term is used to describe embarrassment you feel on another person's behalf.

Hace dos semanas le ofrecí a mi esposa que remodelara remodelar el baño de visitas, y lo pinté y cambié todos los accesorios fijos incluso el grifo por algunos de bronce oscuro, y por eso tuve que cambiar el interruptor y tomacorriente- no solo las placas pero sino también los aparatos- y ahora mi esposa cree que todos las otras placas en la casa, que son de plástico blanco, no se ven bien. Dudo que después de cambiar todo en la casa crea que vale la pena.
Two weeks ago I offered to remodel the guest bathroom for my wife, and I painted it and changed all the fixtures including the faucet with dark bonze ones, and because of that had to change the light switch and power outlet- not just the plates but also the devices- and now my wife thinks that all the other plates in the house, which are white plastic, don't look good. I doubt that after I change everything in the house I will think it was worth it.
