Ir avanzando mucho & Echarle ganas

Ir avanzando mucho & Echarle ganas

I keep in touch with a former member of the SD family and she used two expressions that I have to guess at the meaning:

Mi hijo va avanzando mucho. My son continues to progress (this is the English verb with accent on the second syllable)

Espero que estés contento y que te vaya bien en todo. Echale ganas! I am guessing that "Echale ganas" means "keep up the good work"

I would like to hear from our native speakers (particularly Mexicans) as to whether I am correct in my guesses about the meanings.

I don't need votes unless you found this post valuable to your learning.

@txelis: "I'm in agreement with...." or "I agree with...." Just to help your English, amigo. - Jubilado, Aug 27, 2015

Jubis, your translation is correct although to say "echale ganas" is mostly a way to encourage someone similar to "órale" (come on, you can do it / give it your best).

I think your 2 options are better than mine given the context of the communication. - Jubilado, Aug 27, 2015

Without more context it is difficult. Mexican's often refer to adults as, mi hijo. So depending on what the context is she could be referring to your progress or the progress of her actual son. My guess is she is talking to you about your progress.

I hope that you are content and that everything is going well. The echale ganas leaves me a bit confused without more context. If she is still referring to your improving Spanish it could mean something like continue with much desire or throw yourself into it or keep working hard at it.

Not a native but hope this helps.

Creo que echale ganas ( hechale) significa 'trabajar mas duro// haz lo mejor que pueda ' . Get on with it as best you can/ tryt, try again, type advice..
