There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. La lana producida por estas ovejas es muy suave.

The wool produced by these sheep is very soft.

2. Mi abuela me está tejiendo una bufanda de lana de llama.

My grandmother is knitting me a scarf of llama wool.

Notes:

In some Spanish-speaking countries, "lana" is a slang way to say "money."

No compraría aquel coche incluso si tuviera la lana.

I wouldn´t buy that car even if I had the dough.

Hoy día cuesta más esquilar una oveja, que vale la lana. Es muy triste porque la lana es un producto buenísima, totalmente natural y las ovejas necesitan su corto de pelo, pase lo que pase. Es un trabajo muy duro y equipos de jovenes esquiladores de Nueva Zelanda vienen a Reino Unido para hacer el trabajo y lo hacen muy bien.En Inglaterra cobran una libra ( £1) más o menos, por el trabajo y la lana vale unos 45 pence.

Nowadays it costs more to shear a ewe than the wool is worth. This is sad because wool is a totally natural product and very , very good and the sheep need their haircut whatever happens. It is very hard work, shearing sheep, and teams of young shearers come over to England from New Zealand in order to do the work and they do it very well. In England they charge roughly one pound for the work and the wool is worth approximately 45 pence.

Mi marido dice que esta información no está al corriente, ahora la lana de una oveja vale más, casi £ 1.50, una buena noticia. - annierats, Aug 10, 2015
Yes, they really do need to be sheared. Some would disagree I think. - rac1, Aug 10, 2015

Well, Jraider, I based it on when we were farming, and now the price of wool is a little better, which is good for ewes and farmers. - annierats, Aug 10, 2015

En Estados Unidos, a veces decimos "Me siento lanudo en la cabeza" insinuar que no estamos pensando con claridad.

In the States, we sometimes say "I'm feeling woolly-headed" to imply that we are not thinking clearly.

Got a question for everyone that I also asked in Ian-Hill's Xword game: does anyone know of a good book of Spanish sayings? It would help because I never know if English sayings translate into Spanish. - Sassette, Aug 10, 2015

La ropa de lana no es tan cómodo para llevar como el poliéster. Lo te digo desde mi experiencia personal.

Woolen clothes are not as comfortable to wear as polyester. I am telling you from personal experience.

Había un una tribu de indios de la costa del noroeste que tenía una raza de perro, ahora extinta, de cual se usa el pelo para hacer tela. No es de exacto la exactamente lana pero fue igual al tenía el mismo propósito.

There used to be a tribe of Northwest Coast Indians that had a breed of dog, now extinct, from which they used the hair to make cloth. It is not exactly wool but it was for the same purpose.

To order yourself to make a suit? Interesting way to put it (if I'm understanding how mandar is used). - Sassette, Aug 11, 2015

Hace muchos años mi madre me hizo un suéter de lana que era demasiado ancho, pero bien de buena larga, así que no podría podía encogerlo suficientemente en la lavadora sin hacer que terminara demasiado corto- creo que lo tengo todavía en algún lugar u otro, pero nunca me lo pongo llevo.

Many years ago my mother made me a wool sweater that was too wide, but of a good length, so that I would not be able to shrink it sufficiently in the washer without causing it to end up too short- I think I still have it somewhere or other but I never wear it.

(This is not it, nor is this me)
