How to say "Sorry for the late reply"

How to say "Sorry for the late reply"

What would be the best way to say "Sorry for the late reply", in the context of responding to an email in less than timely manner.

I think "Lo siento..." would be too strong, would it not?

Thanks in advance!

Lo siento / discúlpame por responder tarde/ la respuesta tardía

I don't see anything wrong in lo siento.

Perdón/Lo siento por haberte respondido tarde.

You really don't need "lo" nor "por" just "Siento haberte respondido tarde" is sufficient. - Daniela2041, Aug 9, 2015
Gracías, y si quisiera usar "Perdón" ¿sería "Perdón por haberte respondido tarde"? - Kiwaiano, Aug 11, 2015

You really don't need "lo" nor "por" just "Siento haberte respondido tarde" is sufficient.

I agree with Daniela that Lo is not necessary, in fact it sounds a little strange in this sentence. Lo siento is used as just one single sentence / clause. But for me, it´s just as valid to say Siento por haberte as Siento haberte.

However, to say "lo siento" for a late response is too strong - "perdón" is sufficient. "Lo siento" is for situations where you feel remorse rather than just being polite.

Gracias por las correcciones, pero si quisiera decirlo con "Perdón", ¿sería "Perdón por haberte respondido tarde"?
