I'm trying to tell a Spanish girl that she and my friend look pretty in a picture they sent me.

Tú y Núria son muy guapas!

Is 'guapas' correct? I thought so, because I'm talking about two people but I wasn't sure.

Yes, it's correct. It's the same as to say: Uds. son guapas.

Muchas gracias. :) - BeccaNixon, Aug 8, 2015
But Julian, in Spain, if it is a Spanish girl, you would not say ' usted'. Or it is very unlikely that you would. nless she is your bank-manager, of course.. - annierats, Aug 8, 2015
Would BuccaNixon not address the girls in an informal way as one of them at least is a friend? I would have thought sois (you-all my friends) if SER was being used or estáis if using ESTAR or do I have it entirely wrong ? - tomasdeAlba, Aug 9, 2015

If you're on tu- terms with the girls, as it appears, I would say '¡ Soís guapas!

Not in México :) ! - Kiwaiano, Aug 8, 2015
In Spain usted is never used between young people, we're todos iguales. But it depends where you are and he did say it was a Spanish girl. - annierats, Aug 9, 2015
Yeah just meant that as an FYI for those who maybe don't know that. - Kiwaiano, Aug 9, 2015

Along the same lines as Kiwaino if u wanted to say that the girls looked pretty in that particular picture you wd use estar over ser. Estan muy bonitas/lindas etc. If u were just saying that they are beautiful girls full stop then ser would be the way to go smile

Indeed Kiwi. I didn't think of it being only a picture.. - annierats, Aug 9, 2015

"Son muy guapas" works but you're saying "You & Núria are pretty". If you want to say they "look" pretty, specifically in that photo, I would say:

"¡Se ven muy guapas!" (hermosas, lindas, bonitas... whatever is more common where you are for what you're trying to communicate.)
