Catch-22 / Trampa-22
Leí este libro cuando era en la escuela pero lo recuerdo todavía. Recuenta la locura de la guerra del punto de vista de un aviador estadounidense, Yossarian, que no quiere volar. Mi parte favorita es cuando deja caer las bombas en el mar para evitar matar a los enemigos y para terminar el vuelo temprano, y los jefes tienen que darle una medalla en lugar de admitir que uno de sus aviadores ha hecho algo tan estupido.
Sin embargo el título trata de una regla más estupida según cual: si te declaras loco para ser mandado a casa, esto quiere decir que no eres suficientemente loco, porque sólo personas con la mente saludable quieren regresar a casa, así que debes pelearte en la guerra. Esta regla se llama 'Catch-22'.
Es también una peli bastante interesante y chistosa (pero no tan buena como el libro, en mi opinión) con el mismo título...
Desde cuando leo libros españolas me encantan las obras de Isabel Allende . Ella tiene una capacidad excelente para contar cuentos y historia. El ultimo libro que leí de ella fue " Inés del alma mía " donde la autora relata la vida de Inés Suárez, primera mujer española en llegar a Chile. Además, narra su relación con Pedro de Valdivia y los obstáculos que tuvieron que sobrepasar para conquistar Chile y fundar la Ciudad de Santiago.
El libro es muy interesante y la historia de Chile es completamente desconocida para mi. En cualquier caso llegué a la conclusión que la historia es sangrienta y cruel por todo el mundo.
Since when I read Spanish books I love the works of Isabel Allende . She has an excellent capacity for storytelling and history. The last book I read was " Ines of my soul " where the author recounts the life of Inés Suárez, the first Spanish woman to arrive in Chile. In addition, he recounts his relationship with Pedro de Valdivia and the obstacles that they had to overcome to conquer Chile and found the City of Santiago. The book is very interesting and the history of Chile is completely unknown to me.
In any case I came to the conclusion that history is bloody and cruel all over the world.

Una novela interesante y azarosa por Julia Navarro, escritora española.

A book that I read and that change my way of thinking about the history of my country was: "Manco Inca: The Great Rebel" of Juan José Vega. This book shows the Resistance War of the Incas against the Spanish Invasion, their estrategies, victories and defeats, but above all, the origin of name: "Túpac Amaru II".
Un libro que leí y que cambió mi manera de pensar con respecto a la historia de mi país fue: "Manco Inca: El Gran Rebelde" de Juan José Vega. Este libro muestra la Guerra de Resistencia de los Incas contra la Invasión Española, sus estrategias, victorias y derrotas; pero sobre todo el origen del nombre: "Túpac Amaru II".

A mi me encantan las novelas poiliciacas de Lorenzo Silva. Son bastante difíciles, pero lo que me gusta es la relación entre los dos guardias civiles, Bevilaqua y su asistente, Virginia Chamorro.
También me gusta sus otras obras , como El hombre que destruía las ilusiones de los niños .
I love the detective stories by Lorenzo Silva. They are difficult but what I like is the relationship between the two police-officers, Bevilagua and his assistant, Virginia Chamorro.
I also like his other works, such as ' The man who destroyed the hopes of the children '.
I wonder if someday I will finish reading this colection!

A few weeks ago I read the book: "The Dream of the Celt" by our Literature Nobel prize: Mario Vargas Llosa, and I can to say that is a great history. This novel has helped me to understand the history of the exploitation, atrocities, and genocide of Leopold II of Belgium at the Congo Free State, the "Amazon rubber boom" and the Easter Rising at Dublin, Ireland.
Hace unas semanas he leído el libro: "El Sueño del Celta" de nuestro premio Nobel de Literatura: Mario Vargas Llosa, y puedo decir que es una gran historia. Esta novela me ha ayudado a entender la historia de la explotación, atrocidades y genocidio de Leopoldo II de Bélgica en el Estado Libre del Congo, la "Fiebre del Caucho" y el Alzamiento de Pascua en Dublín, Irlanda.
La novela que menciono más que nada es 1984 por George Orwell, la cual es más famoso por presentar el término "Big Brother" (Gran Hermano, Hermano Mayor). Pero lo que suelo decir sobre esta novela es que cuando la leí, pensé en que iba a ser 1984 en sólo unos pocos años. Con GPS en los celulares, videocámaras en todas las esquinas y gobiernos que escuchan nuestros teléfonos y que ven lo que escribimos en Internet, quizás ahora nos acerquemos a 1984.
The novel that I mention more than anything is 1984 by George Orwell, which is most famous for introducing the term "Big Brother". But what I usually say about this novel is that when I read it, I thought about that it was going to be 1984 in only a few years. With GPS in the cell phones, videocameras on every street corner and governments that listen to our phones and watch what we write on the internet, perhaps now we are approaching 1984.
Crimen y Castigo / Crime & Punishment
Leí esta novela en escuela cuando estaba obsesionado con los escritores rusos. Lo he leido sólo en inglés pero he leído por lo menos tres traducciones diferentes desde el ruso, y cada parece un poco distinta.
Trata de un jovencito que es estudiante y cree tiene una mente mejor que normal, y por eso cree que tiene el derecho de asesinar a una dueña anciana que no le gusta. Sin embargo, después del asesinato se siente lleno de culpa, y finalmente es esta culpa que resulta en su captura por la policia.
Es un libro bastante largo y de veras no mucho pasa excepto en la cabeza de este protagonista, que se llama Raskólnikov. Fue el primer libro que leí sin heroe...
I read this novel at school when I was obsessed with Russian writers. I've only read it in English but I've read at least three different translations from the Russian, and each seems a little distinctive.
It deals with a young man who is a student and believes he posses a superior intelligence, therefore has the right to kill an elderly landlady whom he dislikes. However, after the murder he is waylaid with guild,, and ultimately it's this guilt that leads to his capture by the police.
It's a rather long book and not much occurs in it except in the mind of this protagonist, who is called Raskolnikov. It was the first book I read without a hero in it...
Bonus points for decyphering the author's name from Cyrillic... 
Cien años de soledad de Gabriel García Márquez. Este fue el libro más aburrido que he leído en español . Es la crónica de la familia Buendía, os puede ser que se trata de la humanidad entera. Como ha ganado el premio Nobel debe ser muy bueno pero para mi fue muy pesado. Es la obra más famosa de su autor y un buen ejample de realismo mágico.
Well, this one, either you love it or hate it. I found it very heavy going.

Establecer antes y durante la gran guerra, Birdsong captura el drama de la época, tanto a nivel nacional como a nivel personal. Es la historia de Esteban, un joven inglés, que llega en Amiens en 1910. A lo largo de la novela que sufre una serie de experiencias traumáticas, de la historia de amor clandestino que desgarra a la familia con la que vive, a la sin precedentes experiencias de la guerra misma.
In my opinion it is one of the very best depictions of WWI.
En mi opinión es una de las mejores representaciones de la Primera Guerra Mundial.
Actualmente leo "Ayuda a tus hijos con las ciencias". Podría ser muy obvio a algunos que leen algunos de mis mensajes que tengo un entendimiento de las ciencias que no es tan bajo, y que mis hijos son adultos y no quieren aprender este tipo de cosa de mí- pero es una buena fuente de terminología española correcta.
Currently I am reading " Ayuda a tus hijos con las ciencias". It might be very obvious to some that read some of my messages that I have an understanding of the sciences that is not that low, and that my children are adults and don't want to learn this type of thing from me- but it is a good source of correct Spanish terminology.
