Español (Spanish):

He estado viendo el programa de televisión la Metástasis en un esfuerzo para mejorar mi español. Oigo la frase, "¿Para dónde va?" y me pregunto si este el equivalente de "A dónde va?" o hay algún significado más profundo?

¿Qué quiere decir: "¿Para dónde va?"

Inglés (English):

I have been watching the television show Metastasis in an effort to improve my Spanish. I hear the phrase, "¿Para dónde va?" and wonder if this the equivalent of "A dónde va?" or is there some deeper meaning?

What does it mean, "¿Para dónde va?"

Glad to see you back mate , that word 'Metástasis' fills me with dread mate , it obviously has different meaning in Spanish. - ray76, Aug 2, 2015

These expressions are almost identical in meaning. As well as synonymous smile

As Jubilado said, ¿Para dónde vas? has the feeling of "Where are you headed"

In Mexico this expression gets shortened down to "¿Pa' onde vas?" (I have to correct my students about this "pa" and "onde" bit quite often.)

Whereas "¿Adónde vas? is just "Where are you going?"

Just a guess but I think it might be the equivalent of "Where are you headed?"

So no specific answer anticipated.

Gracias. For context, a driver is saying it to a passenger that is unexpectedly exiting the vehicle. - jrschenk, Aug 2, 2015
