¿Estudiar en mexico?
Hola! Quiero estudiar en la programa ''study abroad'' en mi universidad. Hay muchos razones que estoy tratando de estudiar a Mexico pero hay una problema... mi amigo (de Monterrey) me dijo que si yo me salga ''los áreas del resort'' no estaré seguro porque soy American. Ella me dije que hay ladrones que siguen los Americans. Cuando lo oí esto me puse triste porque siempre he querido ir de mexico. Pero a lo mismo tiempo... mi amiga se ha conocido a exagerar. ¿Este es la verdad? Ella dijo que no les gustan los Americans y que necesitaría alguien que puede guardar me... :( ya me han dicho esta también.

Sí, si es cierto. Lamentablemente la situación del país no es la mejor, algunos tienen sentimientos de inferioridad o simplemente les caen mal los gringos (no todos). Los asaltantes como en todos lados (supongo) escogen a sus victimas, para robo eligen a las mujeres distraídas para robarle el bolso porque pueden traer cosas de valor como el celular, pero tú siendo gringo quizá te quieran secuestrar, de hecho que yo sepa, estados unidos advierte a sus ciudadanos con una lista de estados que no es recomendable visitar por la delincuencia. He escuchado que monterrey y Sinaloa son los lugares más peligrosos. Lo más recomendable es que le hagas caso a tu amigo y no salgas de zonas "seguras".
Mexico is not nearly as bad as it's made out to be. I've lived here with my wife for nearly 3 1/2 years, in Sinaloa and have spent some time in Mexico City as well. You just gotta be smart, go out with friends and learn from people in the area.
How much you go out on your own and where depends a lot on your level of Spanish, knowledge of the culture, and the area your in. If you don't know Spanish, or the culture, or the area, you could get yourself into trouble in a not so good area... and not be able to get yourself out of it. Now on the other hand, if you're smart about it all, you'll be fine!!! I get so tired of the comments when I visit my wife's home about how dangerous Mexico is.
Was Chapo Guzman captured 1km away from my house? Yes. Did that scare us? No. Would I ride the subway in Mexico City by myself at night? Yes. Would I walk at night through the ghetto alone? No. Would I send my wife home on the metro at night? No.
Cities are still cities though, and big ones are even worse if you find yourself in the wrong place... but doesn't matter if it's LA, Detroit, or Mexico City. There are nice parts, and there are not so nice parts.
I'd recommend going anywhere that you can make some sort of connection with people there. Friends, friends of friends, friends of family, church, school... just something to get you in... from there the family oriented culture will take care of you until you're ready to go out more on your own.

Dondequiera que vayas, debes tener cuidado. Por ejemplo, ¡no camines solo por la noche! Pero si siempre has querido ir a México, creo que debes hacerlo.
