There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1. Heredé la nariz larga de mi padre.

I inherited my dad's long nose.

2. La hembra del mono narigudo prefiere los machos con las narices grandes.

The female proboscis monkey prefers males with large noses.

The front end view of the space shuttle looks like Snoopy because of the shape of the nose, the black and white colors, and it juts out like a muzzle.

La vista frontal del transbordador espacial parece Snoopy debido a la forma de la nariz, los colores blanco y negro, y sobresale como un hocico.

El héroe de la famosa pieza de teatro quien tenia un nariz enorme, fue en realidad un escritor bien conocido en su época, pero su nombre está subsistiendo sobre todo debido a Rostand, el escritor.

The hero of the famous piece of theatre who had a huge nose, was actually a writer well known in his time, but his name was subsisting primarily because of Rostand, the writer.

Is subsisting the right word here? I wonder if you mean is existing, or is surviving. Either seems a bit awkward, maybe better to say 'his name is still known today' - jennysk, Jul 19, 2015

Aunque por lo general los peces no tienen una nariz que se conecta conecte con el sistema respiratorio como la de los tetrápodos, tienen orificios que dan a una fosa revestida con sensores olfatorios y por eso pueden oler- creo que todos conocemos la habilidad de los tiburones para oler la sangre.

Although for the most part fish don't have a nose that connects with the respiratory system like that of the tetrapods, they have openings that open into a pit coated with olfactory sensors and so are able to smell- I think everyone is familiar with the ability of the sharks to smell blood.

I imagine the two greats, Quevedo and Góngora, in a rap battle concerning the poem: "To a nose" of Quevedo.

Ya me imagino a los dos grandes, Quevedo y Góngora, en una batalla de rap a propósito del poema: "A una nariz" de Quevedo. LOL

A una nariz (Quevedo)

Góngora:

“Hoy hacen amistad nueva

más por Baco que por Febo

don Francisco de Que-Bebo

don Félix Lope de Beba.”
