Translation for "to prompt"

How would I say "to prompt" (V) in Spanish? As in "something that causes or brings about an action or feeling".

Also, how would I say the noun form "prompt"?

For example, "I prompted him to begin his speech." or "I gave him a prompt to begin."

I'd also love to hear a native Spanish speaker's translation for those sentences.

When the OP posts an attempt, perhaps a native speaker can tell us more about it. - rac1, Jul 18, 2015
Vale. I will wait. You know, these things are easy to find in any good Spanish/English dictionary. - Daniela2041, Jul 18, 2015
Of course you have to know your alphabet. Jejeje! - Daniela2041, Jul 18, 2015
Rac1, I went to your link. There is nothing I can add to this great list. - Daniela2041, Jul 18, 2015
Thanks for your help, Dani. :) - rac1, Jul 18, 2015
I guess I was hoping a native would translate his sentences... dictionaries don't always solve what's actually said in real life. - Kiwaiano, Jul 22, 2015
