verb ( to wrap; to involve )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. ¿Has envuelto los regalos para la fiesta de cumpleaños mañana?

Have you wrapped the presents for the birthday party tomorrow?

2. No me envuelvas en las peleas entre tú y tu esposo.

Don't involve me in the fights between you and your husband.

Those teeth are what turn coral into sand. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 14, 2015
it's disgusting hopefully is sufficiently strong (or should have used resistent?) :D - Pablo064, Jul 14, 2015
"hopefully it is", "should I have"- remember we like subject pronouns. I think the early warning system Ian mentions is quite apt, when the bubble is disturbed it wakens the fish. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 14, 2015
So a Moray eel does not have time to sneak up on it. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 14, 2015
Either strong or resistent- either one works for me. - bosquederoble, Jul 14, 2015

En esta tira cómica, Dilbert no usa las palabras ni la palabra "envolver" ni "involucrar", sino la frase de dos palabras "consistir en" que puede significar casi la misma cosa.

In this comic strip Diblert does not use the words "envover" or "involucrar" but the two-word phrase "consistir en" which can mean nearly the same thing.

From Wikipedia:
Salting the earth, or sowing with salt, is the ritual of spreading salt on conquered cities to symbolize a curse on their re-inhabitation. It originated as a symbolic practice in the ancient Near East and became a well-established folkloric motif in the Middle Ages. There is no evidence that sufficient amounts of salt were used to render large tracts of land unusable.

Se me hace que nos quieres envolver, Ken. It seems to me that you are trying to confuse us, Ken. :) - LuisCache, Jul 14, 2015
:) "Who salted the earth?" is a new one for me. "Who rattled your cage?" might be an equivalent here. :) - ian-hill, Jul 14, 2015
Luis: you want confusion? envolver: 1) arrollar, enrollar, rollar, bobinar, devanar, aovillar, encanillar, ovillar, liar. 2) mezclar, complicar, implicar, involucrar, suponer … - DilKen, Jul 14, 2015
Ian: I like "who rattled your cage" here also. I put an explanation of "salted the earth" in my post to explain the origin of this phrase. I agree, it is not very common. - DilKen, Jul 14, 2015
it can mean nearly the same thing in a very specific context like this but even so I have my doubts ;)...no usa ni la palabra envolver ni involucrar would be better Ken - Pablo064, Jul 14, 2015
Too much confusion here! - LuisCache, Jul 15, 2015

I don't always have wrapping paper so sometimes I use the color comics in the Sunday newspaper.

As the avocados were still a little bit green, I wrapped them in newspaper to ripen them faster.

Although "hincha" is in the dictionary for "sports fan" , "aficionado/a" is more common. --Not to have you change yours, just some info. - Daniela2041, Jul 14, 2015
...profesional 'de' hockey...'llamados Chicago...'..'después de que el'...'hincha' is very used, an 'aficionado' is not a fan it's just a spectator :) - Pablo064, Jul 14, 2015

Cruce: "of a poem of mine" or "of my new poem" "of one of my poems" "of some poetry that I wrote" "a poetry" never works when referring to an individual poem. It is like saying "a literature" instead of "a book" - DilKen, Jul 15, 2015

Como mi cachorro nuevo siempre se marea en el coche tengo que ir al pueblo para comprar un periodico inglés, el telegraph del domingo , porque tiene más páginas que los otros periódicos que conozco, y por eso pongo por ejample la sección de ´motores´ en el maletero para que pueda envolver el vómito de manera más conviniente.

As my new puppy always gets car'sick I have to go into town in order to buy an Englsih newspaper, the Sunday Telegraph, because it has the most pages of any paper I know, and therefore I put the'' car section'', for example, in the back of the car, so that I can wrap up the sick more easily.
