There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1. Creo que el traje azul es mejor para la entrevista que el negro.

I think the blue suit is better for the interview than the black one.

2. Algunos de los que caminaban en el desfile de Carnaval tenían puesto trajes muy elaborados.

Some of the people who marched in the Mardi Gras parade had on very elaborate costumes.

Do you mean "You bought a suit ?" - ray76, Jul 13, 2015
"Usted compró un traje"? - ray76, Jul 13, 2015
i means traer - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
Oh I understand now = Did you "bring" the suit? Yes ,I brought the suit. - ray76, Jul 13, 2015
to bring - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
You could say - You brought the suit ? Now i see what you meant , great sentence mate. - ray76, Jul 13, 2015
i want to say did you bring the suit? yes i did - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
but is it ok in english? - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
In English if you are referring to a specific suit you would say: Did you bring the suit? Yes I brought the suit. If you are referring to any suit in general you would say Did you bring a suit? Yes I brought a suit. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
I believe, according the rules of article usage in Spanish, that if you were talking about a specific suit you would have used "el traje" Therefore, I think the only correct English translation is "Did you bring A suit" Yes, I brought A suit. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Since this is a language learning site, please try to follow proper capitalization rules in both languages. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
ok. i thought the way you posted, in spanish means "has traido traje/el traje" and not "trajiste traje/el traje".now i see that is the same thing in english. - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
i will tray to follow propee capitalization but while i am using a movile instead a computer , it is not a eaay thing - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
Just to be clear, by "specific suit" I mean that the speaker and listener would have in mind one specific suit that they are talking about: e.g. "the one I left on the bed for you to bring to me" - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Txelis: I understand. It isn't as necessary, in my opinion, in comments, but in the main post, it is. You can take the extra time to do it, even with a mobile. At least I have been able to do so. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
about traje/el traje. the question is clear because in spanish we do the same way - 000a35ff, Jul 13, 2015
Tx: yes, when talking about a specific suit, we do it the same way. When talking about suits in general we often do it differently. The English requires the indefinite article, but the Spanish does not. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Also, when "traje" is the subject of a sentence, it requires a definite article, but if we are talking about suits in general, the English does not. Los trajes son incómodos. Suits are uncomfortable. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Spanish speakers: if I write something about Spanish usage which is not true, please correct me so I can learn. I sometimes make statements that I am not 100% positive about in order to learn by being corrected. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Yo no traje traje, porque no nado nada. - LuisCache, Jul 13, 2015
Luis: Very funny. I did not bring a suit, because I am not swimming at all? - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
Yes, Ken's suggested corrections are right. :) - rac1, Jul 13, 2015

El Señor no se preocupaba mucho con el vestido de su hijos recién creados, por eso llamamos los desnudos; vestidos en el traje de Adán.

The Lord did not concern himself much with the dress of his newly created children, that is why we call the naked; dressed in the costume of Adam.

Cada vez que le digo a mi esposa que ella solía hacer esto o aquello para mí, me responde que yo solía invitarla a cenar en un restaurante afuera y llevar traje. Todavía tengo un traje, pero no estoy seguro de que todavía me quede bien.

Every time that I tell my wife that she used to do this or that for me, she responds that I used to take her out to dinner and wear a suit. I still have a suit, but I am not sure that it still fits me well.

Un traje de noche para mujeres debe ser de alta gama, muy elegante, femenino y dejando la espalda desnuda, muy sexi sin verse desmasiado obvio o vulgar.

An evening dress for women should be luxurious , very elegant, feminine and leave the shoulders bare, sexy without being too obvious or vulgar.

Mstivers: a good website to check if a phrase translates literally is http://context.reverso.net/translation/english-spanish. Enter an English phrase like "she was all over him" and see the most common ways of saying this in Spanish. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
I should note that context.reverso.net has hundreds of thousands of phrases that have appeared on websites in both languages. They don't use machine translations. - DilKen, Jul 13, 2015
