There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. La maestra borró el pizarrón al terminar la clase.

The teacher erased the blackboard at the end of class.

2. Borré mi trabajo de historia por accidente y se supone que lo entregue mañana.

I accidentally deleted my history paper and I'm supposed to turn it in tomorrow.

HI, Ambette. Message to everyone but Amber: I didn't get a good answer badge for my project yesterday? Put a lot of effort into it. And I voted for virtually everyone. Give me a break, people > :-( - Sassette, Jul 11, 2015
...there are a number of reasons why I don't get votes, but let me ask this: Why does posting early mean it's a great project that deserves a lot of votes? - Sassette, Jul 11, 2015
Hola, Ian y JR. :):) - rac1, Jul 11, 2015
It doesn't mean that...at least it shouldn't. Sorry, Missy. ♥♥ - rac1, Jul 11, 2015
Thanks, Amber. I just sent a message to feedback imploring them to get rid of voting on the games. If anyone feels discouraged like I do in this voting environment please join me and submit your thoughts to feedback. - Sassette, Jul 11, 2015
Hi Amber I missed this one somehow . - ray76, Jul 13, 2015

A los jovenes les encantan los tatuajes aunque duele applicar un iguana o un dragon a tu espalda, pero cuando tengas 40 años y quizás quieras borrarlo vas a tener un problema porque la única forma de quitarlos es quemarlos con un láser.

Young people love tattoos even though it hurts to put a lizard or a dragon onto your back but when you reach 40 years of age and might want to get rid of it you are going to have a problem because the only way to get rid of them is laser-treatment.

Cuando era niña en la escuela rivalizábamos por quien tenía mejores lápices y gomas de borrar.

When I was a girl at school, we competed to see who had best pencils and erasers.

Es valeroso resolver palabras cruzadas con bolígrafo, porque no puedes borrar. borrarlo.

It´s brave to do crossword puzzle puzzles with a pen, because you can´t erase.

No I didn't Ken - I was just stating an opinion. :) - ian-hill, Jul 11, 2015
OK, Ian. It just seemed like it to me, I guess, because you started with Ken:... No problem, mate. I hope you don't mind my sentence for today. If you do, I'll get rid of it and post something else. - DilKen, Jul 11, 2015
I wasn't complaining about you criticizing me. Sometimes I deserve it. You are a moderator and have every right to moderate. By deleting my comments I was trying to avoid the consequences that you mentioned in your comment. - DilKen, Jul 11, 2015
Hola amigos. :):) - rac1, Jul 11, 2015
Hola Ken - sorry if I offended you - that was not the intention. As you know English grammar is weird - "the exception that proves the rule" and all that stuff. We grow up with it but it can confuse those learning English. - ian-hill, Jul 11, 2015
Oh and please don't change your sentence - the effort you put into these threads is alwaya worth a vote. :) - ian-hill, Jul 11, 2015
Ian: no problem, I understood your message. I don't know how many times I have corrected people to tell them to say "than I/he/she/they" instead of "than me/him/her/them" I never thought that "than" could be used as a preposition, but apparently it can. - DilKen, Jul 11, 2015

Mi esposa y yo siempre rellenamos hacemos el crucigrama en el periódico, y normalmente ella lo empieza y cuando ya no puede hacer no más, me toca a mí, y con frecuencia tengo que borrar unas pocas algunas de sus respuestas para completarlo.

My wife and I always do the crossword puzzle in the newspaper, and normally she starts it and when she can't do any more, it is my turn, and I frequently have to erase a few of her answers in order to complete it.

..cuando no puede hacer (nada) mas or cuando ya no puede hacer mas..'algunas de' de sus ' I would use 'hacer' instead of 'rellenar' but it's okay I guess :) - Pablo064, Jul 11, 2015
I was going to use hacer, but then could't decide if that would imply that I was creating the crosswords. Why can't I say "unas pocas de". Thanks, Pablo. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 11, 2015
Como mi madre y yo :) - 201286, Jul 12, 2015
I had to search 'a few' on the translator because I've seen you translated it in that way before, it doesn't fit at all it's hard to tell you when 'unos pocos' goes, probably when it is unique answer, but if you always use 'algunos' you will never be wrong - Pablo064, Jul 12, 2015
Continue using it I'll tell you when it doesn't go until we figure out when it goes :) - Pablo064, Jul 12, 2015
Funcionaría "varias"- o simplemente "unas"- quiero describir una cantidad más pequeña que "algunas"- quizás dos o tres. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 12, 2015
varias is much more than 'algunas', for two or three 'algunos' goes perfectly I understand what you mean but I'm thinking of another way to say it and nothing comes to my mind - Pablo064, Jul 12, 2015
Thanks, I always had thought varias was less than algunas. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 13, 2015
