How to say "How sweet!" as an exclamation/phrase?

For example: you have someone give you a gift and you say "How sweet!" since you're so happy.

I've been looking through other answers and most people agree "¡Qué dulce!" is not the way to go. I saw tierno/a as well, but I don't think I'm referencing a person, since it's technically a phrase. I don't want to say "How cute!" either. Is "¡Qué preciosa!" my best option?

Your "¡Qué precioso/a" is good. Also possible is "Gracias, muy amable!" Or "¡Qué amable!"

How sweet you are: ¡Cuán dulce eres! "How kind!" ¡Cuán amable!

Actually, "¡Qué dulce!" is also OK. But I'm from Spain. It might not be cool here.

Thanks for the variation Daniela! I really appreciate it. I think you're right and sticking with "¡Qué precioso/a!" is a good idea. :) - lindseyhl, Jul 11, 2015

Eres un sol but it is a sentence used generally by old people for refering to kids.

Thank you my love, you are a sun.

Gracias mi amor, eres un sol

Thanks txelis! That's such a cute phrase too, that'd I'll probably use it the next time I have the chance (even if it's mainly used by old people)! :) - lindseyhl, Jul 11, 2015

¡ Que maja /majo! ¡ Que guay!

My Spanish neighbours use these two expressions a lot. They are in their 60´s and are from rural Andalucía. The expressions may be outdated in Madrid, for all I know.

¡Es precioso (preciosa) ! This works really well.

"¡Qué guay!" is something I didn't know previously, so thanks annierats. I'll practice using it. I'll use "¡Qué precioso/a!" for "How sweet!" though. Like you said, it works well and seems to be the best translation. - lindseyhl, Jul 11, 2015
