Se le. an explanation please.

Question

In the following paragraph.

La protesta afecta a automovilistas, microbuses turísticos que se dirigen a Cobán, Alta Verapaz, y viceversa. También trascendió que dos camiones que transportan ayuda para los afectados por la contaminación se les ha impedido el paso

The prostest affected cars, tourist buses, that go between Coban and Verpaz and viceversa. Also what happend was two trucks that transport help to/for those affected by the contamination.... AND THEN I FALL OVER. got blocked as well. ???

Please can you tell me who or what is ;se; and who or what are ;les in; se les ha impedido el pas and if you know how you knew that without saying direct or indirect pronoun that would be nice to know as well.

My Spanish is Castillian, so maybe I see things differently. To me the original sentence has one minor flaw which I shall attempt to correct.

"También trascendió que 'a' dos camiones que transportan ayuda para los afectados por la contaminación se les ha impedido el paso."

Translation"

"It also was learned that passage was hindered to two trucks that transport aid to those affected by the contamination."

The problem is that the word order is soooo diffenent between English and Spanish, one has to be fluent in both to be able to put it together.

The "se les" construction is a little tricky to deal with. I have a BIG explanation about this in another thread.

I dont know if i am able to translste it properly yo the english . But i will do my best. Se les ha impedido el paso.

SE is the pasive voice (refleja).i dont know how to say refleja in english. It is a kind of pasive voice.

LES refers to the two trucks.

I will convert the pasive voice refleja into pasive voice of proceso because it is the only way iI know to translate it into the english.(with the same meaning)

My interpretation

The two trucks have been privated of passage.

The translation into spanish would be

Los dos camiones han sido privados de paso (it is correct but we dont use). And means the same that (a los dos camiones se les ha impedido el paso.

Daniela, you don't have to be fluent in both languages in order for your brain to pick up the correct translation.

I can say that Royhh's answer was influenced by txelis's answer or maybe it was the other way around...hard to say.

Txelis's answer is somewhat correct but he/she fails to note that although not used (much) today (it was mentioned as such though) the passive in not incorrect.

It's more, two trucks were hampered in their journey. It may imply the protest caused it but the se doesn't refer to the protest, it is just "two trucks had their journey troubled" or however you would like to say it. - Royhh, Jul 9, 2015

Please, don't drive yourself crazy with that type of stuff.

Instead, just start translating from Spanish to English. That's the only way you are going to understand what"s being conveyed in Spanish.

But as you write in Spanish in order to translate to English, you are going to acquire the written form of Spanish. In other words, you will write in Spanish, most of the 'time correctly, but won't know why it has to be written that way. See? You really don't need grammar. Once you speak and write Spanish correctly then you can learn grammar, if you want to do so.
