There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Colgamos el dibujo que hizo mi hija de la familia en la nevera.

We hung the drawing my daughter made of the family on the refrigerator.

2. El arquitecto nos mostró los dibujos para la oficina nueva.

The architect showed us the sketches for the new office.

Cuando mi esposa compra algo de uno de sus catálogos y yo tengo que montarlo, siempre es mejor mirar el dibujo en lugar de leer las instrucciones.

When my wife buys something from one of her catalogs and I have to assemble it, it is always better to look at the diagram instead of reading the instructions.

My worst experience with this scenario was putting together a bbq grill :-((!!! - Jraider, Jul 7, 2015
:) 'montar' is used in Spain - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015
Despite my best efforts, I have a bizarre mix of various influences that includes a strong presence from Spain. Thanks, Tiempo. :) - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2015
Probably would help if I used things consistently from one region, but I don't. - bosquederoble, Jul 8, 2015
From my point of view I can tell you that the mix you do is very notoroius and the difference I note on you unlike other members is that strong presence from Spain - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015
I think that is not bad at all, first because you express yourself perfectly and I can understand you clearly (speaking is another subject :D) and second because you learn expressions and vocabulary wider than who just learn Spanish from a determinated re - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015

Aquí se ve un dibujo de dos de mis personajes favoritos bien conocidos en Francia, Asterix y Obelix. Ah, y el perrito se llama "Dogmatix."

Here you see a drawing of two of my favorite characters who are well known in France, Astérix y Obélix. Oh, and the little dog's name is "Dogmatix."

If you use 'I think-creo' then should say 'Creo que los dibujos a lápiz de Adonna Khare SON extraños pero hermosos.' - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015
Otherwise 'Encuentro los dibujos a lápiz de Adonna Khare extraños pero hermosos.' :) - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015
It would work either way in English, though "I think them strange but beautiful" is less common. Spanish is Spanish, however, and stubbornly refuses to go by the conventions of English. ;>) - AnnRon, Jul 8, 2015
Now you tell me that I think that it can work in Spanish too 'Los pienso extraños pero hermosos'' - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015
but it should be like this 'A los dibujos de Adonna Khare los pienso extraños pero hermosos' mmmhm - Pablo064, Jul 8, 2015

Uno de mis artistas favoritos es Caravaggio. Pocos de sus dibujos sobreviven; se cree que no hizo estudios para sus cuadros sino empezó pintar directamente en el lienzo.

One of my favorite artists is Caravaggio. Few of his drawings survive; it is thought that he did not do studies for his paintings but began painting directly on the canvas.

I found this in Wiki: The picture is called The Calling of St. Matthew. - LuisCache, Jul 7, 2015
"Jesus saw a man named Matthew at his seat in the custom house, and said to him, "Follow me", and Matthew rose and followed Him." - LuisCache, Jul 7, 2015
Matthew is either pointing at himself as if to ask "Me?" or at the young man at the end of the table, asking "Him?" - LuisCache, Jul 7, 2015

Cuando era niño me gustaba mucho dibujar. En una ocasión hice un dibujo de la toma de la Bastilla después de oír la historia en el radio. El dibujo debió ser algo parecido a éste.

As a kid, I loved to draw. Once I made a drawing of the storming of the Bastille, after hearing the story on the radio. The drawing must have looked like this one. enter image description here

Los niños pequeños aman mucho dibujar. Es una parte importante de su desarollo. Tristemente, más tarde muchos deciden que sus dibujos no son buenos y por eso, dejan de intentarlo.

Small children love to draw. It is an important part of their development. Sadly, later many decide that their drawings aren't good and because of this they stop trying.
