Hola a todos!

Soy hablante nativa de español, pero sé inglés también. No sé si este sea el lugar adecuado, pero me gustaría saber si alguien puede aclarar mi duda. El día de ayer, mi país (Chile) ganó el campeonato de fútbol Copa América. He leído en medios angloparlantes el titular 'Chile win' en vez de 'Chile wins'. ¿A qué motivo se debe esto?

Espero respuestas en español, así todos podremos practicar smile

The answer is relatively simple.

If you regard Chile as one team then it is "Chile wins the Copa América"

If you regard the team or Chile as a group of people then it is " "Chile win the Copa América".

So both are correct.

In the US, "Chile win" would sound very odd to most people. I suspect that in the UK "Chile wins" might sound odd as well. - jtaniel, Jul 6, 2015

Congratulations on that great win.

The people of Chile are the winners , it was a great "win". I am sure that the

sentence was ,"Chile win the cup"that is correct , but Chile wins the tournament

Either is acceptable depending on where in the English speaking world it is written
