Question

La hija de mi padre y de mi madrastra es mi (blank) hermana .

I have tried la and el.

What could be the answer?

I don't understand what i'm missing. The word 'hermana' is correct. And the sentence translates to The daughter of my father and my stepmother is my sister. I have tried everything, and have gone through my chapter again. Any ideas?

Welcome to the forum. I assume from your comments and questions you are a native English speaker learning Spanish. Can you complete your profile as to your level of language? I don't want to pitch an answer too high or too low.

So far as your sentence is concerned, in my home country she would be my half sister and if she was the daughter of my step mother with a previous partner she would be my step sister.

If you look the word up on the translator you will see one way it is said in Spanish is a direct translation of the English - media hermana.

Do you have a teacher? I don't know your level of Spanish but I hope it was just panic which made you consider el or la!
