There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. ¿Has probado la leche de cabra?

Have you tasted goat's milk?

2. He oído decir que la leche de almendra es más saludable que la leche de vaca.

I've heard that almond milk is healthier than cow's milk. .

En mi casa solo bebemos leche de almendra, y a veces le he preguntado a mi esposa si los elfos de Keebler las ordeñan como trabajo adicional, pero ahora me pregunto si en lugar de esto serán los pitufos los que lo hacen.

In my house we only drink almond milk, and at times I have asked my wife if the Keebler elves milk them as a side job, but now I wonder if instead of this it is the Smurfs that do it.

Se dice que a los gatos les gusta mucho la leche, pero ¿ quien sabe tal vez preferirían unos ratones a la leche?

It is said that the cats like milk very much, but who knows, perhaps they would prefer a few mice to milk ?

¿Qué dijo un vaso de leche al otro?

Tú no eres el queso grande tampoco. wink

What did one glass of milk say to the other?

You're no big cheese either.

I was wondering whether the Milk Board has an advertising campaign in Latin America or for Latin American markets in the U.S. similar to its "Got Milk" campaign which uses famous athletes and actors/actresses as spokespersons. I found an interesting article that explained why they do not. Latino women who understand a little English wonder why "Got Milk" is an effective slogan. "Why would anyone want to know if I am lactating," they say. So, ¿Tienes Leche? would presumably mean the same thing to them. Latin American marketing advisors to the Milk Board also said that even if Latino women understood the U.S. meaning, they would be insulted. "Are you implying that I don't keep milk in the house for my children as part of my motherly duties? Of course I do." I thought this was an interesting cultural difference.

Si quieres insultar a alguién, puedes decir : ¡Hijo del lechero! pero no sé si la gente te entendería hoy en día, porque la mayoría compra su leche desnatada en el hípermercado y puede ser que no sepan que es un lechero y ni siquiera lo que es una vaca .

If you want to insult somebody you can say '' Son of a milk-man!'' but I don't know if people would understand you these days , because most of them buy their fat-free milk in the supermarket and they probably don't now what a milkman is nor what a cow might be.

Hoy en día en Escocia en los supermercados el precio de la leche está tan barato como no te veas. Si la abajan más tendrán que darnosla gratis. Yo lo siento por los ganaderos de leche...

Nowadays in Scotland in the supermarkets the price of milk is so cheap like you wouldn't believe. If they lower it any more they'll have to give us it free. I feel sorry for the dairy farmers...
