Lessons I Learned the Hard Way
Simply write a sentence in both English and Spanish about a lesson you learned the hard way. Post a picture if you'd like. Post as many times as you like. Vote for all the posts you like. Many of us can offer suggestions for the English sentences. I hope one or more of our native Spanish speakers will help out as necessary with the Spanish.

Aprendí por las malas que no es buena idea ser fiador.

Hace unos 18 meses visité a mi madre quién tenía la enfermedad de Alzheimer. Me prestó su bolso para hacer unas compras para ella en el pueblo donde vivía. Nada mas volver a casa, llegó la policía en un coche patrullero con la sirena y las luces encendidas . Mi madre les había llamado por un presunto robo de su bolso y su dinero. Aprendí algo en esto momento de vergüenza.
Some 18 months ago I visited my mother, who had Alzheimer's Disease. She lent me her handbag so that I could do some shopping for her in the village where she lived. I had hardly got back to her house when the police arrived, flashing lights and siren going full pelt. My mother had phoned them about the presumed robbery of her handbag and her money. I learned a lesson in that shameful moment.
Always check the alarm clock the first night in a hotel room. The person who just checked out of the room might have left it set to wake up for an early flight.
La primera noche en una habitación de hotel compruebe siempre el reloj de alarma. La persona que acaba de salir de la habitación podría haber dejado establecido que despertar para un vuelo temprano.
Once a friend of mine was making her famous recipe of homemade chicken soup to bring to a family reunion. As she was pressed for time, she asked her husband to skim the fat off the soup. To her horror, she found that he had drained all the liquid through a colander and only the vegetables remained.
From this, I learned an important lesson. You have to give good instructions.
Una vez, una amiga mía fue estaba haciendo su receta casera famosa de sopa de pollo para llevar a una reunión familiar. Mientras Como que ella tenía prisa, le pidió a su esposo a desnatar retirara la grasa a del caldo. Para su horror Se horrorizó al ver que, descubrió él había drenado todo el liquido a través de un colador y solamente quedaron las verduras y el pollo.
De eso aprendí una lección importante. Tienes que dar instrucciones buenas buenas instrucciones.
