adjective ( suspicious )

There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Soy sospechoso de cualquier persona que siempre está de buen humor.

I'm suspicious of anyone who is always in a good mood.

2. Su comportamiento es muy sospechoso. Es posible que sea el ladrón.

His behavior is very suspicious. It's possible he's the thief. .

In English, a similar saying is "Don't judge a book by it's cover" This phrase is used to refer to any sort of person or thing, not just books. - DilKen, Jun 18, 2015

I think in this case, you should use "suspicaz": No me gusta ser suspicaz. - LuisCache, Jun 18, 2015

Good use of mal instead of malo here. Although it is a masculine adjective, and not an adverb here, mal is correct when it precedes a singular, masculine noun such as karma. Is it OK to capitalize karma in Spanish? - DilKen, Jun 18, 2015
Ken , you are correct I did it for emphases , some people do not understand the word . - ray76, Jun 19, 2015
# Luis , thanks mate I have taken your advice and added another sentence to keep the integrity of the word. - ray76, Jun 19, 2015

Language, Anoche, vi (no accent) 'A' un hombre. The personal a is necessary, here i hope thsi helps :) - FELIZ77, Jun 18, 2015
The personal 'a' is used to indicate that an action is done to a person. It is also used with pets like cats or dogs for which we hold a certain affection. - FELIZ77, Jun 18, 2015

Almost perfect, Luis! :) correction: white man approximately 5' 9" (You don't need the word 'of') I know that 1.75mts is 5'9" because that is my height ;) - FELIZ77, Jun 18, 2015
Tnank you, Feliz! I wasn't sure about the convertion. I am 1.80, I think that is... um... 5'10". - LuisCache, Jun 18, 2015

Don't you need to say: did so? // did indeed do it// were found guilty of doing it?? I love questioning English speakers! - annierats, Jun 18, 2015
"...lo hicieron". Saludos, Ian! - LuisCache, Jun 18, 2015
Annie: I think it is grammatically correct as is. I would probably say: "The extremist groups, who were suspected of carrying out the attack, had actually done so." Or ....attack, were, in fact, guilty of the crime. - DilKen, Jun 18, 2015
The brief "did" adds emphasis to the statement = no need for elaboration which detracts from the effect. - ian-hill, Jun 18, 2015
Because "did" is an auxiliary verb it does not work well in Spanish. - ian-hill, Jun 18, 2015
Well, thanks Ken. I would not understand Ian's version, I would have thought it wrong.. But ok, it is correcto. And I think it the same in Spanish and Englsish, they dit it. Not to worry. - annierats, Jun 18, 2015
I was thinking the same as Annie. I know it's not incorrect, but it left me waiting for the "did what". :) Thanks Ian. :) - rac1, Jun 18, 2015

Soy sospechosa de los viejos dichos y refranes, pero claro, no hay nada mas sospechoso que un gitano haciendo el ' footing'. O, si hay, no sé lo que sea.

I'm suspicious of old sayings but of course there is nothing more suspicious-looking than a gypsy out jogging. Or, if there is, I wouldn't know what it might be.
