When texting with my Guatemalen friend, I keep reading the phrase "pero que..." being used similar to "very" in english (I think). For example, "pero que calor" and "pero que lindo". I think maybe the translation would be "how hot!" and "how cute!" but I can't find anything about this phrase online. ¡Necesito ayuda por favor!

You´re basically right, but don´t forget to add a tilde because it´s an exclamation, ie: ¡Pero qué chica más guapa!
