There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

2. ¿Quemar la basura es malo para el medio ambiente?

Is burning trash bad for the environment? .

De vez en cuando la gente toma las cosas palabra por palabra, a pesar de que todo el mundo sabe que hay ejercicios para quemar las grasas

Sometimes people take things word for word, while everyone knows that there are exercises to burn fat.

España es llena de historia y algo de su historia es muy feo. Comenzando el siglo 14, bajo la inquisición española, muchos judios y otros fueron quemados hasta la muerte por el presunto crimen de no ser cristiano.

Spain is full of history and some of the history is very ugly. Starting in the 14th Century, under the Spanish Inquisition, many Jews and others were burned to death for the suspected crime of not being Christian.

¡Que causalidad! He trabajado toda la mañana haciendo un fuego para quemar las malas hierbas y las ramas cortadas que he echado del terreno de al lado del carríl que llega a mi casa . Es un trabajo duro . Para encender fuego hay que pedir permiso al ayuntamiento porque hay gran riesgo de incendio, pero ahora es un buen momento , está lloviando y el aire está en calma.

What a coincidence! I have spent the morning working on building a fire in order to burn all the weeds and cut-off branches from the land on the side of the track that goes to my house . It's hard work. In order to light a fire you must ask for permission from the Town Hall because there is a big risk that the fire gets out of control but just now is a good time for it because it's raining and the air is still.

Alice, entiendo que has estado utilizando una lupa gigante como una rayo mortal en la oficina.
No es una rayo mortal. Lo utilizo sólo para quemar tupés.
Vale, está bien.
¿Está tu cabeza demasiado caliente?
La mía está muy caliente.

Literal: Mi cabeza está demasiado caliente. (I prefer the prior style-wise in Spanish)

En el pasado, antes de que descubrieramos los antibióticos las quemaduras eran un método de sanar las heridas graves, como las amputizaciónes que eran necesarias para curar a los soldados que se quedaban con piernas podridas por la gangrena . Había que quemar el sitio de la hérida a hierro candente para cautizarlo .

In the past, before we discovered antibiotics, burning was a method used to heal serious injuries, such as the amputations that were necessary in order to heal soldiers whose legs were rotting from gangrene infections. It was necessary to burn the injured part with red-hot iron in order to cauterize it.

"El que juega con fuego se quema" es un modismo sobre la toma de riesgos inútiles.

"Play with fire and you will get burned" is an idiom about taking unnecessary risks.
