How to translate "hilo conductor"

This is the passage I am trying to translate:

"Durante el programa los participantes contaréis con facilitadores/as con recorrido internacional especializados/as en estas disciplinas, además de con un mentor on site que les acompañará y servirá como hilo conductor durante todo el proceso."

How do I translate the sentense with 'hilo conductor'??

I would say "common thread." It's a bad literal translation but I think it's the idea.

If I understand correctly what is happening, "liaison" may be a better translation. Other good words might be "guide," "attendant," "chaperon," or "escort."

In this sense it seems like they are talking about someone who keeps the conversational "thread" on track. So, discussion leader, maybe?.
