There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. Mezcle dos tazas de harina con una taza de agua.

Mix two cups of flour with one cup of water.

2. Es mejor que no te mezcles en el pleito entre el director ejecutivo y el presidente.

It's best if you don't get involved in the fight between the CEO and the president.

Estoy disfrutando la comida en España, donde es común pedir varias tapas y compartirlas entre un grupo de amigos. De esta manera se puede mezclar muchos sabores, sin comer demasiado.

I am enjoying the food in Spain, where it is common to order several tapas and share them between a group of friends. In this way you can mix various flavours without eating too much.

"toda la gente gustaría de las mismas peliculas..." that doesn´t sound right. Shouldn´t it be "a toda la gente lista le gustarían las mismas películas"? - mstivers, Jun 11, 2015
Mstivers: I think you're right. The Spanish translations often have mistakes in Dilbert. I think some guy does this for fun, just for the internet. And he is not a professional translator. I have noticed many errors on these. - DilKen, Jun 11, 2015
:) - ian-hill, Jun 11, 2015
Although it is not very common, you can also use "gustar" as in this case. - LuisCache, Jun 11, 2015
In its 5th definition of gustar, the RAE dictionary includes: Desear, querer y tener complacencia en algo. Gustar DE correr, DE jugar. - LuisCache, Jun 11, 2015
Luis: the example you have all include an infinitive verb after gusar de. Does this need to be gustar de ver or gustar de mirar las mismas peliculas in order to be correct? - DilKen, Jun 11, 2015
Not necessarily, although it is more often used with verbs in infinitive. - LuisCache, Jun 11, 2015
Jejeje! My edit finger is getting itchey :-}}!!!!! - Jraider, Jun 11, 2015
I don't even have reputation 'creo que hoy voy a..' I noticed that in English you put 'today' at the end of a sentence and you could do the same in Spanish but it doesn't sound natural - Pablo064, Jun 12, 2015

I am wondering whether the subjunctive or conditional of poder should be used here instead of the indicative. The result has not happened yet, and you are not even saying that it necessarily will be dangerous, only that it might be. - DilKen, Jun 11, 2015
it s perfect very good Kati :) KenI am thinking a way to use subjunctive ..maybe 'porque el resultado puede que 'sea' peligroso' :) - Pablo064, Jun 12, 2015

A veces me gusta combinar sabores en de maneras que no son exactamente clásicas y anoche mezclé orégano, romero, cebollino y un poco de hinojo- todo fresco de mi jardín- con vino blanco, cebolla, ajo, alcaparras y un limón en una salsa para el pescado- y a pesar de las especias inusuales para este tipo de salsa mi esposa me dijo que le gusta gustó.

Sometimes I like to combine flavors in ways that are not exactly classical, and last night I mixed oregano, rosemary, chives and a little fennel- all fresh from my garden- with white wine, onion, garlic, capers and a lemon in a sauce for the fish- and despite the unusual spices for this type of sauce my wife told me she liked it.

En Sevilla hay una gran mezcla de colores, el blanco y amarillo de las casas, lo que es muy típico de Andalucía, el verde oscuro de los grandes arboles de los parques, los impresionantes palacios que están hechos de piedra , los pequeños patios andaluces con sus flores y los callejónes donde se mezclan los sevillanos con turistas de todo el mundo, todos vestidos conforme con sus tradiciones. El la foto vemos una tal turista australiana.

In Seville there is a mixture of colours, there is the white and yellow of the houses so typical of Andalucia , the dark green of the big trees in the parks, there are the impressive palaces made of stone, the small, inner court-yards with their flowers and the narrow streets where the people of Seville mix with tourists from all over the world, all dressed according to their customs. In the photo we can see a certain Australian tourist. :// photo my friend takes a photo_zpsvjbrsfaa.jpg

A veces, nosotros, los bilingües mezclamos el vocabulario y la gramática de las lenguas que hablamos. ¿Espanglés anyone?

At times we bilinguals mix the vocabulary and the grammar of the languages we use. "Spanglish" anyone?

No quiere mezclarse con la gente del pueblo. He doesn’t want to mix with people from the village.
