Translate "I raised"

Question

Need assistance in translating the following:

I’m pleased the Legislature took a solid step forward in addressing many of the long-term issues I raised.

My Attempt: Estoy contento que la legislatura tomó un sólido paso adelante en tratando muchos de los problemas a largo plazo que traje a su atención

"En tratando" will not work, I would try "en tratar con", I wonder if is should be "problemas de largo", but I am not advanced enough to guarantee my suggestions. :) - bosquederoble, Jun 9, 2015

I would say either "problemas a largo plazo", or "problemas a lo largo" - 005faa61, Jun 9, 2015

I believe that I would simply leave out the "en" from "en tratando. I can remember, many years ago, wondering why my colleagues/friends/mentors never used it. My conclusion was that, even in English, it's difficult to determine what service or extra meaning it provides; is it, indeed, no more than a habit?. In Spanish it seems that it is less often used so, say I, get rid of it.
