How to gender while Interpreting

Question

Hello there,

I will be interpreting a speech for my boss this weekend, and I have a question. I know that it is customary to interpret in the first person, and as such I had planned on speaking as if I were my boss (using Yo conjugations). But my boss is female, and I am male; so my question is, do I use feminine adjectives and gender the speech as if I was her?

Having used interpreters in court, the rule there is the interpreter does not exist. You speak as if it were your boss speaking, gender and all.

Yes. Especially when in court a judge stops you to look for a term in his or her dictionary. His dictionary was like a 16 by 20"!!!! i was sweating like a pig, but I passed! :D - chileno, Jun 5, 2015

I'll be interpreting a pretty long speech, Chileno. It will have lots of personal narrative, so I will very frequently have to use feminine adjectives, nouns and pronouns- ie "Cuando era niña...¨

I interpret a lot for English speaking missionaries and need to use masculine pronouns and references a lot. Winkfish is right. The interpreter leaves his/her gender out of the picture and becomes the mouth of the speaker. - Daniela2041, Jun 7, 2015
