How do you answer "¿A quién le escribiste la carta? (Jorge)"?

It depends on what they want:

"¿A quién le escribiste la carta? (Jorge)"?

"Le escribe la carta a Jorge"?

Escribiste is the past tense "you wrote"- you need "I wrote" to respond: escribí

Le escribí la carta a Jorge. I wrote the letter to Jorge.

But probably they want la carta as a pronoun:

Se la escribí a Jorge - I wrote it to Jorge.

Here you have to know that "le" becomes "se" when it precedes "la". Also that you need to include "le"even though you have "a Jorge" later- which clearly you do know as you did that.

Good explanation but remember that grammarically "le" is not necessary here because "Jorge" comes after the verb. "Le" is only mandatory when "Jorge comes before the verb: "A Jorge le escribí la carta". Cheers - 005faa61, Jun 2, 2015
