There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile .

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

.

1. Hubo muchísimo tráfico y llegué tarde a la oficina.

There was a ton of traffic and I made it to the office late.

2. Nuestra oficina es de planta abierta.

Our office has an open floor plan. .

Notes:

El despacho" is often used for "office," as well. .

Ahora estoy en Salamanca, donde voy a estudiar en la escuela Don Quijote, una escuela de español para extrañjeros. Está en la parte antigua de la ciudad. Después de almorzar, caminé por las calles estrechas. Es verdad lo que se dice, la mayoría de las tiendas y las oficinas están cerradas entre las horas de la una y cuatro de la tarde.

It's true what they say, most of the shops and offices are closed between the hours of one and four in the afternoon.

Cuando trabajaba en la ciudad de Chicago, Illinois, tenía una buena vista del Lago Míchigan. Mi oficina estaba en el sexagésimo séptimo piso del edificio de Standard Oil.

Here is my attempt to improve the Spanish translation:

Necesito un mentor para nuestro nuevo empleado pero cada cual de ustedes es disfuncional. Así que el mentor será nuestro robot de oficina. No puede ser peor que ustedes chiflados. Entonces ¿un ser humano es menos importante que el equipo de oficina? Mucho menos. Ni siquiera cerca de ser tan importante.

No tengo un cuarto que pueda usar como oficina. Por lo tanto convierto la mesa de comedor en una oficina siempre que sea necesario.

I don’t have a room that I can use as an office. So I turn the dining table into an office whenever necessary.

Mi hermana normalmente trabaja desde casa, y me dice que visita su oficina una vez cada por semana para no olvidarse de donde trabaja, pero piense piensa mudarse al otro lado del estado si su esposo, quien es maestro de escuela primaria y quien tiene que ir a su trabajo, puede conseguir empleo allá, y si se mudaran, me dice que cree que podría mantener su actual empleo corriente.

My sister normally works from home, and she tells me that she visits her office once every week so as to not forget where she works, but she is thinking of moving to the other side of the state if her husband, who is an elementary school teacher and who has to go to his job, is able to get employment over there, and if they move, she tells me that she thinks she can maintain her current job.

..desde su casa..una vez 'por/a la' semana..piensa...su actual empleo.. :) in these cases is better to say 'por/a el/la' instead of 'cada' - Pablo064, Jun 1, 2015
Thanks, Tiempo, I thought about desde and actual, I didn't like cada but couldn't think of a better way, and piense was a stupid conjugation error, I didn't really think I needed subjunctive there. - bosquederoble, Jun 1, 2015
it's 'una vez 'por' semana' or 'una vez 'a la' semana' I think that this 'por/a el/la' wasn't too clear I meant 'por' or 'a el/la' so 'a el' would be for example 'una vez 'al' año or una vez 'al' día' ;) - Pablo064, Jun 2, 2015
yes 'desde' to avoid confusions 'trabaja de casa' sounds like 'she works as a house' somewhat strange ... - Pablo064, Jun 2, 2015
Gracias. :) - bosquederoble, Jun 2, 2015

Hoy fui al banco y después al despacho de mi abogada, una mujer muy guapa e intelligente pero por mala suerte ella estaba fuera de la oficina y no pude hablar con ella sobre uno de los muchos problemas burocráticas que tengo que solucionar en España.

Today I went to the bank and afterwards to my solicitors office. My solicitor is a very intelligent and good-looking woman bbut unfortunatly she was not in the office and I was unable to speak to her about one of the many bureauocratic problems that I have to solve in Spain.
