Crecer is "to grow" while Criar is "to raise".

Yo crecía en un rancho donde criábamos pollos.

Example, moderately truthful, my grandmother actually spent most of her days in bed, reading novels:

Nací y crecí en Estocolmo. Fui criada por mi abuela porque mi madre trabajaba tanto que no tenía tiempo para criar a sus hijas.

"Fui"? - Winkfish, May 29, 2015
Thanks, but hmmm, I'm still not getting it... :-( - Faldaesque, May 29, 2015
Pimsleur is giving it as me crié (from criar) whereas crecer is the verb I'd come across before... & I often say fue when I mean fui... :-) - Faldaesque, May 29, 2015
Thanks Wink, this is what comes of writing too fast.. - annierats, May 29, 2015
Crecer: to grow up , or to grow, depending on cotext. Criar: to rear. - annierats, May 29, 2015
I too make the fue/fui error regularly. It just seems like the yo should end in e like tuve, pude, puse, vine, dije, etc. :( - bosquederoble, May 29, 2015
Bosque I agree on fui/fue. I do it too. - gringojrf, May 29, 2015
