There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.
.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile
.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

1. Toda la gente de mi nuevo trabajo es muy simpática.

All of the people at my new job are very friendly.

2. Anoche pasamos un tiempo muy simpático con la familia.

We had a really pleasant time with the family last night.

La chica morena en esta historieta no está siendo muy simpáticacolor>. No tiene la compasión o ni la simpatíacolor>. Al menos podría decir "¡Qué pena!" algo simpáticamentecolor>. También podría simpatizar color> con ella dándole una palmadita en la espalda.

The brunette in this comic strip is not being very nice. She has no compassion or sympathy. At least she could say "What a pity! somewhat sympathetically. She could also sympathize with her by giving her a pat on the back.

...no está siendo muy..is what you mean in the English sentence I suppose..no tiene compasión o simpatía..but I'd say no tiene compasión ni simpatía... :) - Pablo064, May 25, 2015
Tiempo. I am aware of the está siendo construction. However, isn't it common to say no está muy simpático when a person is not nice on a specific occasion and no es simpático when not being nice is a permanent characteristic of a person? - DilKen, May 25, 2015
Ken, I think it is ' ser' or ' tener'. No tiene simpátia, no es simpática... - annierats, May 25, 2015
If I wanted to say "I am being nice to her" would I say Estoy siendo amable "a ella" or "con ella" or are both or neither OK? - DilKen, May 25, 2015
'con ella'...yes Ken I didn't know you already knew that 'está simpática' is okay I corrected just in case ;) - Pablo064, May 25, 2015

Dicen que el diablo parece un hombre muy simpático, pero si cenas con él, deberías usar una cuchara larga...

They say the devil is a very charming man, but if you dine with him you should use a long spoon...

Para todo el mundo las ardillas son animales muy simpáticos , pero en realidad de vez en cuando se comen a los pequeños pajaritos y a los huevos de las aves también.

Squirrels seem to be very friendly animals to everybody, but in reality they occasionally eat small birds and eggs of birds .

..en cuando se comen a los..y a los de huevos de las aves..(you don't need 'ellas' wink)

El Pitufo Bromista no es simpático cuando le regala los paquetes a sus amigos.(regala--indicative)

Jokey Smurf is not friendly when he gives packages to his friends.

Pienso Creo que el Pitufo Bromista no es simpático cuando le regala los paquetes a sus amigos. (regala—indicative)

I think that Jokey Smurf is not friendly when he gives packages to his friends.

No creo que el Pitufo Bromista sea simpático cuando le regale paquetes a sus amigos. (sea, regale---subjunctive)

I do not think that Jokey Smurf is friendly when he gives packages to his friends.

Thanks, tiempo, for helping me further understand the indicative/subjunctive smile

Good morning 2U2. I vote for indicative. Thoughts and opinions are expressed as if they are known facts, not emotions. But I've been wrong before. - DilKen, May 25, 2015
I hope that Jokey Smurf can take it as good as he gives it :-)! - Jraider, May 25, 2015

With all apologies to all you Loyal Democrats out there. I'm just having fun with this.

Nuestro Presidente se las da de "simpático"--pero no sé. Our President tries to give the impression of being a nice guy. But I don't know.

Pero a veces me parece que ésta es la verdad. But at times it seems that this is the reality.

¿O quizás, ésta? Or maybe this?

Some people complain that he's TOO nice, others that he's not nice at all. The man can't win--anything but an election, that is. :>) - AnnRon, May 25, 2015
I really wish people would keep away from politics unless they are making a serious point, which this certainly isn't. - mstivers, May 25, 2015
This is appropriate for sharing with like-minded friends, but not for a non-partisan, educational site. - mstivers, May 25, 2015
I think it is so hard being a politician it's impossible to please people. And whether they are nice or not is the least of our worries, the policies are what matters. Anyway, SD rule: no religion or politics! - jennysk, May 26, 2015

La mayoría de la gente es simpática. Si ves a alguien que no es así, saluda a la distancia y sigue caminando. Eso es lo que hago.
