I´m just reading a book by Isabel Allende, it is called ¨Inéz of my soul'' and it is about the conquest of Chile. It has made me think about the conquistadors, something which has never interested me in the least before because Latin America is very far from my country. Nearly all the men have Indian lovers and slaves and many of these become pregnant, as we well can imagine, and lots of mestizos are born, children who are have a mixture of Spanish and Indian blood.

I am the cook for my family. Let me tell you about a dish that I make once each week. Before I cook this meal, I say "We're having Mexican tonight!" First, I cut up a large onion and put it in a frying pan. I break up a half kilo of ground turkey and add it to the pan. I mix these together and cook them until they have turned light brown. I also put a little hot sauce, which is made by Valentina, into the pan. Next I add some crushed tomatoes and black beans. Finally, I put in some brown rice. I heat the mixture for 30 minutes. How delicious!
