I can understand how the typo occurred, I just mistyped "falta" instead of "fatal" too. Twice. What's up with that word? :-) - Manity, May 21, 2015

After the correction of the question i'm answering again:

Me pongo fatal means I feel really bad. This can be related to the health or to the mind.

Me pongo fatal cuando como picante

I feel really bad when I eat some spicy food

Me pongo fatal cuando me deja una novia

I feel really bad when a girlfriend leaves me.

Is there a difference in the meaning of "me pongo fatal" and "me encuentro fatal"? - Manity, May 21, 2015
It is the same, but the second one is just at this moment, and the first one is to use to say the cases when you feel bad. (short space-short explanation) XD - txustaboy, May 21, 2015
Aha, right. Thanks! :-) - Manity, May 21, 2015
thanks so much for the explanation! - nobby8, May 21, 2015

Without a context is really difficult to know the real meaning of the expression.

The only meaning that I can remember now, with the information that you give, is hard to explain, but i will try. In Spain this sentence is used sometimes to say that you have not gone or you are not going to go to any place or event.

For example, if your friends went out last night to a party and you couldn't go, you can say:

Me pongo falta, la proxima vez voy seguro

However, I'm not sure, but probably, this meaning is not the one you are looking for.

In the other hand, it is common to say the expression: Poner falta or Poner una falta. This can meaning the same I explained before or in a similar meaning, when you are at school and you don't go to class, the teacher "Te pone una falta (de asistencia)".

Also, if you are a woman and you "tienes una falta", probably you are pregnant.
