Vi el medico

Question

Hi, which is correct? Yo vi el medico or Yo vi al medico. Could either be used correctly? I was trying to say I saw the doctor.

You can use either personalized or not personalized, it depends on the nuance you want - just any doctor of no relation to you, or your own personal doctor.

For just any doctor I would be inclined to say "Vi a un médico." I've not heard of this nuance. Thanks for mentioning it. - Jubilado, May 21, 2015

"Nuance" is probably not a good explanation. If there are doctors, soldiers, engineers, cops, etc who are not known but just in general, we don´t need to personal them, ie: "Veo dos policías en la calle persiguiendo un narco traficante". However ......... - 005faa61, May 21, 2015

Please, do you mean that you saw a docotor ( passing in the street, for example? ) or, that you went to the doctor's?

Or : Fui al medico. That's what I say. I went to the doctors ( I assume that people will understand that the doctor then looked at me, wrote out a prescriprion or sent me on to be ex rayd, or whatever, fui al médico. - annierats, May 23, 2015

You could also say Yo veo el doctor.
