There are many native English speakers here, most of us can offer great suggestions to the English sentences. I will do my best to go through them all, too. For the Spanish sentences, edit your posts according to the native Spanish speaker's suggestions. Use today's Word of the Day in your own Spanish sentence (and include the English translation as well). Try to use the word in a completely new way and vote on the sentences you like best. The winner will be chosen based upon the correct use of the word as well as the number of votes.

.

Please encourage everyone with a vote. smile
.

Guidelines:

Write sentences at least 5 words long, but don't write a paragraph either. Write your Spanish sentence, but include the English translation as well. Make the corrections suggested by other users and moderators in the comments section (try not to use personal pronouns unless absolutely necessary). Use your own words! (Don't use a translator, copy from a book, use song lyrics, etc.) Please keep political, religious or personal statements to a minimum. This is a practice game.

Examples:

1. No ha sido el de siempre desde que su novia le rechazó la propuesta de matrimonio.

He hasn't been himself since his girlfriend rejected his marriage proposal.

2. Si rechazas la comida de mi abuela, se ofende mucho.

If you reject my grandmother's food, she gets very offended.

Mucha gente siente envidia del estilo de vida que tienen los príncipes pero hay que recordar que un príncipe, un rey o una reina nunca puede rechazar ninguna comida que le ofrezca un tríbu en otro continente, sea lo que sea. Una princesa muy tímida quizá puede negarser a comer los ojos de ovejas, creo.

A lot of people are envious of the Royal life-style but you have to remeber that a prince, a king or a queen may never decline any food that's offered to them by some tribe on another continent, whatever it might be. A very shy princess might refuse to eat sheep's eyes, I think.

En las ciencias, el proceso normal es proponer una hipótesis y luego hacer experimentos para determinar si concuerda con los resultados- si concuerda bien es posible llamarla de una teoría, si no, se debe rechazarla.

In the sciences, the normal process is to propose a hypothesis and then do experiments to determine whether it fits with the results- if it fits well it is possible to call it a theory, if not it must be rejected.

A menudo pasa que los niños rechazan un beso, porque no les gusta si son regados con ellos, pero cuando sean jóvenes no los vayan a rechazar .

Often happens that children refuse a kiss, because they don't like being showered with them, but I think that when they become to youngsters , they won’t reject kisses.

you can say...pero cuando sean jóvenes no 'los' van a rechazar.' for not repeating 'besos'... and to not repeat 'ellos' you can omit the first one in 'les gusta si son regados con ellos' ;) - Pablo064, May 12, 2015

Muchas gracias, amigos! - sanlee, May 12, 2015
..necesario rechazar... Sanlee in English you form the infinitive by adding 'to', that 'to' doesn't need to be translanted into Spanish because the infitive is only a word with its corresponding termination 'ar,er,ir' e.g 'to refuse' is just 'rechazar' :) - Pablo064, May 12, 2015
....razón 'u' otra...'to have to' is 'tener que' so 'he tenido 'que' hacerlo...debido a (no article) circuNstancias de familia' or 'circunstancias familiares..' :) - Pablo064, May 12, 2015

Algunos piensan que sólo convertirse en un cristiano requiere aceptar a Jesús. En realidad, también es necesario rechazar a Satanás.

Some think that becoming a Christian only requires accepting Jesus. Actually, it also requires rejecting Satan.

No creo que sea facil ser editor en una casa editorial. Hay tantas personas que quieren escribir una novela. Cientos de libros llegan todo el tiempo. El editor tiene que leerlos y decidir si son buenos, y si la gente va a comprarlos. Es muy difícil. A veces se equivococan, y rechazan una novela que entonces se hace un gran éxito en otra empresa.

I don't think it is easy to be an editor in a publishing house. There are so many people who want to write a novel. Hundreds of books arrive all the time. The editor has to read them and decide if they are good, and if people will buy them. It is very difficult. Sometimes they make mistakes and reject a novel which then becomes a great success in another company.
